Kongo should be able to take Pat Barry down with relative ease and ground and pound his way to victory. Kongo's wrestling is much, much more evolved than Pat Barry's.

I was being factious... I know it was a long time ago but I still have stigma about Kongo when he fought Cain that I just can't shake out of my head. He rocket the future HW champ at least 3 times and if he could at all defend a TD, he might have seriously derailed Cain's gravy train.

But I would agree... Kongo is ahead of Pat Berry's last performance. I'm interested to see if his new training partners have upped his game or not.

Cain Velasquez could quite easily do what he did to Kongo to 95 percent of every other HW in the division. Kongo has not got bad wrestling, it's actually quite decent, it's just that Cain Velasquez' wrestling is that damn good. It's like Jon Jones and GSP, they make other wrestler's look bad.

If you had never seen Ryan Bader fight before he fought Jones, would you think he was a bad wrestler? Probably. But that clearly isn't the case, Bader is actually a strong wrestler. I'm not trying to say Kongo has some strong wrestler's pedigree, but it's much, much better than people give him credit for.

Cain did the same thing to Ben Rothwell (who is also a solid wrestler) and Jake O'brien. He can take down who ever he wants, when he wants and beat them up pretty bad, you shouldn't judge Kongo's wrestling from the Cain fight.

Pat Barry on the other hand.....He is grapple retarded, one of the worst grappler's I've actually seen compete in the sport. If Kongo can take down, control and make Paul Buentello tap to strikes via ground and pound, I'm sure he'll be able to easily take down Barry and GNP him too.

I don't know about that anymore. He's been training with sone elite wrestlers for the past 6+ months and kongos wrestling is like a fat kid trying to do a chin up.

Personally, I think hes a real and genuine guy who shows a tremendous amount of respect to the other fighters in the UFC. I can see how you might not like the guy for being so outgoing but I can't see how you'd hate the guy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though and it is pretty much impossible for everyone to like someone. Im sure even GSP has some haters for reasons they deem logical and most others would not.

Also, he is 18-6 in k-1 kickboxing. That means he won 3 out of every 4 fights against gigantic men who only train stand up. Not many UFC heavyweights could come close to that so for that reason he is indeed "world class" in MMA stand up. Did i miss an MMA fight where he has gotten bested in his stand up? If I did, please remind me.

As far as the ground game goes... well if you get choked out by cro cop you need some work, SON.

Bottom line is, he serves as entertaining stand up fighter with a unique personality and for that I wish him good luck against Kongo.

Correction: 4-5 in k-1 kickboxing. 18-6 overall in pro kickboxing
Thanks Mckeever

WUT? Kongo actually has decent TD's and strength to pull it off, also brutal GnP. I say its a very good test for Barry's TDD and how is the Lesnar camp helping him.

Not every fighter in the UFC is going to get near a title shot - plenty of them just have too many limitations. Pat Barry is one of those guys, mainly because he is smaller than the majority and as Mckeever hilariously stated 'grapple retarded'.

What makes Barry different, and why a lot of fans get behind him and support him, isnt as much to do with his fighting (Kongo will probably beat him and he is hardly Championship material) but rather his personality, as numerous other posters have said.

He seems funny, and good with fans. But most importantly it is literally like watching someones realisation of a dream when you watch Barry. Most of these guys are under so much pressure and so intense, stressed out and psyched up by the time they get to the cage they probably never get to enjoy what an incredible experience it truly is, until they finally learn (by which they are retired and shot to shit) and wish they could have it back.

At least with Barry you know he is enjoying it and truly living his dream as it comes. I actually liked the CroCop fight because it showed how much he loved and respected the sport and its history. I wouldnt want it to become a regular thing, but every now and then, its nice to see a true fan enjoy his moment. Its refreshing.

Pat Barry is 4-5 in K-1 tournaments.

I don't hate the guy, I just find him much more irritating than he is funny.
