Munoz ready to accept showdown with Brian Stann
Quote:
Mark Munoz's manager has revealed the middleweight is ready to accept a hard-hitting fight with Brian Stann.
Munoz defeated Demian Maia in a tight decision at UFC 131, and ESPN understands the UFC is keen to pair the American with Stann, who recently beat Jorge Santiago.
With reigning champion Anderson Silva fighting Yushin Okami at UFC 134, the middleweight division does not have a clear contender for the next 185lb title fight.
Michael Bisping has delayed his title run to coach on TUF 14 against Jason Miller, while Chael Sonnen remains suspended from MMA. Vitor Belfort has already had his shot, so a Stann v Munoz fight could determine the next contender.
If the UFC approaches Munoz's camp, they will get exactly the answer they are looking for.
"After coming off a big win over Damien Maia, Mark would welcome any fight that brings him closer to a title shot," manager Mike Roberts told MMAWeekly.
"If that fighter is Brian Stann then so be it. If that's the fight the fans want to see, Mark would welcome that challenge. Brian Stann is a great guy, so it would be Good Guy vs. Good Guy. That can be compelling in itself."

This is great news! After this win brians bandwagon will fill up fast and maybe he can beat the winner of bisping/miller for a #1 contender shot. (go away chael)

I wont mind seeing this fight. If Munoz is smart he takes it to the ground and works from there. Otherwise Stann will probably put him away standing.
My question is if Munoz somehow wins, will he accept a fight with Anderson Silva? I doubt it and for that reason UFC wont give him a #1 contender fight.

Why wouldnt he accept a title shot? He would probably have a decent chance of beating Silva actually considering that his wrestling is good enough to take Silva down and Silva isn't getting any younger in general.

Because they take the "no fighting teammates" rule seriously at Blackhouse and so far, Dana lets them.

Good fight. As has been said before, it would all come down to whether Stann could stop a takedown from Munoz or not. Or, if Munoz is smart enough to take him down instead of trying to prove something on the feet.

Stann better work on fighting off his back, because he isn't going to be able to stop Munoz's takedowns.
I'm quite excited to see this fight if it works out. Too bad that Bisping won't fight Miller until December, because a Munoz/Stann vs Bisping number one contender's bout would be awesome.
Do they just give the winner of this fight the title shot?

I'd say Stann takes this, Munoz will stand for at least 1/2 of the first round and that's plenty of time for Brian.

There is no way Munoz keeps this standing. He will constantly try and put Stann down. How is Stann's TDD?

I do! He remains the ultimate challenge for Brian or any other MW.
I'd like to watch Brian beat the piss (I love that phrase) out of Silva before he faces the real King of the MW's
