Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira slams Dana White

Quote:
Former UFC and PRIDE champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has today hit back at UFC President, Dana White and the notion that he decides when a fighters career is over or not, adding he was glad Tito Ortiz forced him to eat his words just recently inside the octagon.

Speaking via Brazil’s R7 Esportes, Nogueira said:

“I think he was unfortunate with his comments. They’re idols of the sport, (Dana’s) not a God who decides on everyone’s career.”

“I loved the fact that Tito Ortiz won his last fight. You see that these people were not champions for nothing. Ortiz, Wanderlei and Fedor were top fighters for a reason. But Dana White can’t decide that, he’ll have to eat his words regarding Tito (laughs)”

Nogueira will step back into the octagon after sixteen months away when he takes on Brendan Schaub on the UFC 134 card next month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Expect the notion of retirement to cross the mind of Dana White if this legendary Jiu-Jitsu fighter walks away with anything less than a win in this one

Looks like Dana really pissed off Minatauro. Seems to me like there was already some bad blood. Not sure why. I'm kinda glad Tito won for the same reason as Nogueira. Lets hope Wandy and Fedor win their next fights!

Chuck, was getting beat pretty convincingly. Tito we all know he needed a win even though he's been competitive. Wand, well I definitely feel he has fight in em still. But yes Dana has the right to state his opinion. Ultimately it's up to the fighter.

Chuck is an exception. He was 39 turning 40, has a daughter and he was getting his circuits shut down completely every fight; Rampage, Rashad, Shogun, and Rich with his off hand of all things.

It's good to see a well respected veteran speak up, but Dana is looking out for his fighters' interests. You see nobody has seen the effects of MMA fighter brains and cognitive abilities yet. It may or may not be as bad a boxers, but you can bet money that there's some brain irregularities in some of the fighters. My body aches after training in the gym with FULL PADDING...roflz. I can only imagine what these guys go through man day in and day out, week in and week out, year after year. Like I said they should have an HR department, sports psychologist, and in house doctors to scan their brains.

Is Nog seriously suggesting that Dana should allow the fighters to decide if and when they get cut from the UFC? How would that work then? Wouldn't we still have dudes like Wes Simms and Elvis Sinosec on the roster? I mean, who would choose to get cut???

But seriously, of course Dana decides who gets cut from the company hes the president of! Nog is being silly. Maybe Sonnen is on to something...

Sensationalist headline by the journo. "Slammed" is a very strong word to be using in the circumstances. Nog was only pointing out that Dana makes mistakes and shouldn't be the one to make the sole decision in whether or not a fighter continues their career, which is true; it should be a joint decision by both parties. But to be fair any possible animosity about this subject was probably not held by Nog over Tito's situation, but more about Wandy's. If Silva was to retire now you'd be certain it wasn't his own choice.

Also Nog doesn't use the word cut or fired he used the word RETIRE and i agree with Nog that Dana White should not and infact doesn't have any say in when a fighter retires.

Tito has stayed around so long because he refuses to retire and Dana White doesn't want him drawing viewers for another promotion, simples.

How exactly Tito made Dana eat his words? All he said was that Tito's back was against the wall which is completely appropriate, as he didn't have a W on his record for, what, 5years?

Nog's talking crap really. If a promoter continues to pay guys to fight who are on the downward slope and have taken a heap load of damage. If you let guys like Wanderlei continue to fight until they say so, we'd have a load of Ken Shamrock's walking around and half of them probably with speech problems. It's got to stop somewhere.

I only think Dana cares about the well being of the fighters and also I doubt he wants past legends turned cannon fodder on his cards. Nog can criticize all he wants but it's not his head on the line when fighters start slurring in interviews.

What's the chances Nog knows his time is coming and is trying to let Dana know it's his decision but Dana tells him to stop?

I back Dana. He was right on Chuck and he's right on Wandy. If they value their health then they'll see sense.

And what has Tito got to do with this, he was just going to get cut because he was on a losing streak.
