I agree with most people. It takes away from the sport and it becomes a whole new type of competition. I happen to be a fan of the slow grinding ground battles personally. If anything, just give the guy on the bottom more credit for submission attempts and whatnot. Lets say a round consists of this:

Fighter 1 takes Fighter 2 down: 3 points (just creating a random point system to make it more clear)
Fighter 2 locks in a guillotine: 2 points
Fighter 1 escapes: 1 point
Fighter 2 locks in a triangle: 2 points
Fighter 1 escapes: 1 point
Fighter 1 is not doing enough and gets stood up: -1 point
Fighter 2 defends a takedown attempt: 2 points
Fighter 2 defends a takedown attempt again: 2 points
Fighter 1 gets the takedown: 3 points

Round breakdown: Fighter 1: 7 points Fighter 2: 8 points

Assuming there was no striking and Fighter 1 had two takedowns and was on top for most of the round, Fighter 2 was working harder and was closer to ending the fight which awards him the round.

An additional 1-3 points at the end of the round can be awarded to a fighter for GnP depending on the damage done but in this case Fighter 1 was lay n praying and would receive no points.

i agree. I don't like the fighter that goes into it looking to out point someone - tap, tap run, tap, run, tap, tap. This = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for me.

Ive felt this would be a good idea for some time now glad a fighter came out and said it. The issue is I dont know how easy it would to get this sanctioned and also time limits were added so they dont get charged insane prices for added air time. I think they could offset the cost of longer fights by broadcasting to the internet or TV themselves. They already do it but in time I think they could drop the PPV providers all together.

I would think all fights would need to be five rounds. I just dont see them changing a business model thats still exploding with profits.

Using the criteria expressed by BJ in the interview, that fight would have been scored a draw...wich is ABSURD!

GSP bat the crap out of Fitch for 20+ minutes. He outclassed him, rocked him several times and overall, he made Fitch look like he didn't belong in the same cage with him.

How in the hell could that fight be scored a draw?!...Beats me...

MMA (UFC) has come a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way since it started. It went thru hell to try and build a serious image.
It went from "organised brawls" to a legit sport, by implementing rules, just like in every other sport.

BJ wants a fantasy world. That won't work in real life.

LOL!! That was some nice editing work my friend.. Because I'm pretty dam confident that you put BJ VS Fitch... But hey, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this.. Regarding BJ, my response was out of frustration because people tend to not give him his dues.. How many other fighters move up like he has and challenge themselves? Instead, hatas want to hate and find something to critize him out.. these same hatas will be on his bandwagon when he retires..

Simple solution to MMA's biggest problems are:

1. change the rules to prevent dry humping
2. give fighting from the bottom more credit
3. only ex fighters or at at least hardcore fans as judges

With that, we wouldn't see many boring fights, less dry hump victories, and less robberies.

If these were the rules, it would be next to impossible to beat Nick Diaz, excellent recovery time, JJ, boxing and chin....it would also be extremly tough to beat guys like carlos condit, anderson silva, and Bj penn, it would really benfit the more well rounded mixed martial artist and would hurt the wrestlers, jon fitch would make like 1,000 a fight, lol.....those 4 guys would probable be at the top of the pay scale.

OHHH, this makes perfect sense... so that's why BJ quit against GSP in their third fight. He was just thinking about the fans! How thoughtful of him!

Liddle vs. Silva
GSP vs. Fitch
Faber vs. Cruz 2
Sherk vs Griffin

I thought those were all great fan pleasing fights, and to rob any of those guys a victory after such performances is just as bad if not worse then any LnP victory... seriously just learn some TDD.

No.....

I meant GSP vs Fitch in the first place and that is what i wrote down in the first place.

No editing. Trust me.

It's obviously pretty self serving by BJ, he's basically saying they should rearrange the rules of MMA to benefit him the most. Lol.

It's also a transparent brag attempt. BJ knows he will just sound stupid if he says he's better than guys like Edgar and GSP after they, you know, keep beating him. But deep down he is convinced he is better, he has just learned to use a more roundabout way of saying so, so he doesn't look quite so dumb when he says it. Although this is still pretty dumb.
