Andre Winner, John Howard Released From UFC Contracts

John Howard and Andre Winner have been released from their UFC contracts.

Howard confirmed the news via a video released to his fans on Twitter.

Winner last appeared at UFC 132, losing an easy decision to Anthony Njokuani in a bout in which Winner was rarely event competitive. Winner, in fact, was lucky to even make it out of the first round after being badly battered, nearly to the point of a ref stoppage.

Winner had previously lost to Dennis Siver and Nik Lentz. He was never able to find his footing in the UFC after reaching the finals of the Ultimate Fighter 9, a bout in which he was outpointed by teammate Ross Pearson.

Howard lost a unanimous decision to Matt Brown at UFC 132 and had previously lost two consecutive bouts to Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger.
Winner, I can understand more then Doomsday. But then, getting beaten by Brown shows you dont really belong in the UFC.

Strikeforce beckons for at least one of them I think.

Regardless of my personal thoughts, its always sad when a fighter gets cut. I feel for them. I hope they both improve and come back strong.

Both are scrappy guys who will do well in smaller shows but neither really belong in the UFC right now. In my opinion both Brown and Howard looked terrible in their last fight so I'm not surprised about that one. I thought they might keep Winner around for one more fight for the next time they visit the UK but dropping him doesn't surprise me either.

Both are guys who really showed a lack of progress and adaptability. They will do well in smaller shows or in SF as they both always show up ready to scrap.

That right there. I think that is the most frustrating thing to watch in MMA. You know all these guys are working hard in the gym, but for whatever reason they just look like the same fighter again and again.

both solid fighters, but I do think better gyms/camps would benefit them greatly.

What's sad is not necessarily the fact that they got cut. What is, is the fact that they may never be able to make it back into the top org ever again. The talent pool is growing faster than ever with new fighters ready to take their place from all over the world. Ones who are hungry and extremely talented like Oliviera, Barboza, Macdonald, and of course Aldo & JBJ.

SF was the minor leagues. There needs to be a system like the CBA for NBA and minors for baseball; the feeder leagues. Guess that's where all the smaller shows come into play.

Unfortunate but in the end, they had to know this was coming. Either now or in one fights time :/

Sad to see them go, but somebody has to make room for up and coming prospects. The evolution of MMA stops for noone
