Are guys like Stevenson and Silva really "safe" they lose one more fight they have to be cut.

Also don't forget the UFC is quietly cutting payroll by eliminating many of the 6 figure fighters

Chuck Liddell - $500,000
Randy Couture - $250,000
Wanderlei Silva - $200,000
Mirko Cro-Cop - $150,000
Gabriel Gonzaga - $120,000
Nate Marquardt - $80,000

Guys in trouble

Tito Ortiz - $500,000
Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira - $400,000
Vitor Belfort - $275,000
Frank Mir - $250,000
Matt Hughes - $200,000
Shogun - $155,000
BJ Penn - $150,000
Rich Franklin - $140,000
Thiago Silva - $110,000
Brandon Vera - $70,000

Lets talk money makers, GSP and Brock Lesnar. The two biggest draws because making the company money is how you get job security and those are the two biggest money makers.
You hit the nail on the head here Toxic. Anyone that is a big draw is the most secure. We all the the Forrest/Bonnar story, Chuck is now a long term employee hell even Tito is still fighting in the UFC despite the differences.

There's lots of guys that are fairly secure but still dispensable. Anyone that stands and bangs and puts on exciting fights has an edge over a guy that puts on boring fights but still wins. If Jon Fitch lost 2 in a row, he'd likely be gone but he keeps his record in the W column (or not the L) so he's fine for now.

Hardy vs. Lytle - Great fight on paper, likely fantastic fight when it happens. The problem is that these guys aren't at the top tier of the division. They aren't the main reason why you'd buy a PPV ie. Brock, GSP, Rampage so they are semi-secure but don't have that drawing power that demands the job security.

The name of the game is excitement. Excitement means $$$ and $$$ means happy employer. I'd say the list of guys that are sitting quite well with the UFC is long but only the big names/draws will be taken care of long term.

Brock, GSP, Rampage and BJ. Its quite simple actually, the guys who can draw viewers has a job. The UFC Is a business, not a sport

Forest and Bonner clearly but I'd say Rick Story and Brian Stann are pretty job safe.

How so? Hughes fight with Sanchez might be his last if he loses. This is coming from Matt Hughes, he'll retire before he's cut to save face but yeah I don't see Matt being with the UFC come 2014 do you?

As for BJ, he's on a high right now he's winning...er...drawing well he's not losing so he isn't talking about quitting. But lets be real, this is a guy who walked from the UFC when he was champion, who slandered GSP when he lost his fight (where he quit on the stool), who has talked about leaving the company and got into a contract dispute with the boss last year. If their is one fighter who is in trouble, who is in danger of talking himself out of a job it's BJ. Their is a lot of circumstantial evidence to believe that their is bad blood between BJ and Zuffa.
