Chael's never been KO'd in his career, he has one of the hardest chins in the sport and he has legitimate power. Even in a van Chael has no reason to be scared of Wand.
Can't believe how many times this video has been posted and discussed.

He doesn't have one of the hardest chins in the sport. He just keeps the fight in places where he can't be hit that solidly. He's a strong guy and obviously not frail but he doesn't have a lot of KO power standing. He has plenty of reason to be scared of Wand in a situation that would look more like rock em sock em robots than Chael's favored takedown-oriented fight style.
And yeah, this is ancient. So ancient I'm not sure its worth merging with any of the older threads.

Chael has over 35 fights and has never been knocked out. I'd say his chin is solid. It's not like Wand would have a ton of power sitting on his ass either.
The odds of Chael ko'ing Silva with a slam on the concrete after he gets out of the van would be better than Wand knocking him out from the back seat imo.

The van is moving, that should give Silva a little time, right?
And frankly I was talking about what Sonnen was probably thinking, not what is necessarily going to happen. For a guy like Sonnen, being stuck with a power puncher with no room to execute a takedown really is probably the second to worst case scenario to being in Demian Maia's guard.
But really I don't think he'd talk shit either way, so whether it was out of being scared or not is kind of academic. Sonnen doesn't like to do his shit talk off the cuff, and rarely in person. Like I said, it's more about promotional value, he doesn't actually mean any of this shit and has no real beef with any of these people. He doesn't have a very flashy style so for him this is a good way to stand out.

He had little to gain by tossing some off the cuff insults at Wanderlei then and there... better to wait until he's got the zinger's polished and can hide behind his smartphone.

I think it's definitely possible that he didn't have any material to say at the time, not so much him being scared though. Present day Wandy isn't exactly that intimidating anymore.

Chael knows whats buisness and whats not. He has no reason to act badly here. What does he gain from a tough guy image there? Right nothing. Both would lose their licenses if they fought outside of the Octagon in some streetfight and most of Chaels talk is pure PR.

I doubt wanderlei would have initiated anything in the van unless chael said something way out of line but if he did, Chael is in a terrible spot. His back was turned to a guy who is known for his brawler mentality so he isn't exactly in the most comfortable situation if he were to give wanderlei a piece of his mind. Other than that its a bit ridiculous to think any professional mma fighter is afraid of any other fighter especially in his division.

Chael afraid of Wanderlei? That's laughable, he's not afraid of Machida or Anderson Silva... he's probably as afraid of me as he is Wanderlei at this point.
