Bro, if Shogun wasn't in shape he wouldn't have withstood so much punishment from JBJ.

To take that kind of a beating without being KO'ed or TKO'ed you have to be in tip top shape.

Being in shape wasn't the issue.

I thought this at first but rewatching the fight, he did look a bit flabby. The Rua brothers are incredibly tough and just keep moving forward until they physically can't.

Back on topic, this fight has been announced for a while now and is next month. It hasn't been a dangerously long layoff so Rua should be 100%. I'd worry about Griffin more than Shogun, all he's been talking about in interviews is how he had all the advantages the first time around, and now it's Shogun's turn. He didn't beat Shogun easily though.

I wasn't interested at first but am getting quite excited for it, it's a great chance for Shogun to simultaneously avenge one of his losses and jump straight back into title contention. Jones vs Griffin is a very interesting fight though.

He always looks a bit flabby.

So does Rampage.

They don't have cut physiques like Phil Davis or Marquardt.

I like Griffin, but his tendency to refuse to commit to strikes is annoying. Everything he throws is generally all arm punches and technical kicks that don't inflict a lot of damage...

People like Silva recognize this & know they can clown him and not worry so much about being KO'ed if they get hit.

It doesn't really sound like an exciting fight in the making, but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

I mean I thought he looked flabbier than usual. Really makes no difference, what would have made a difference is not getting flying kneed on the chin and then slammed onto the mat and winded. That was all within the first minute, I think the only other LHW who can match, or is closest to, Rua's toughness is Rampage.

If the shogun that fought bones shows up I wouldn't be surprised to see forrest win again. Shogun enters the octagon breathing heavy from the walk out there xD

When shogun is in shape and brings his A game he's a world beater.

No one

There we go. Everyone tries to pin Shogun's defeat on gassing and not being committed. He ate a vicious knee to the face in the first ten seconds or whatever, then he ate a ton of damage on his way back to his feat after being slammed to the floor. Shogun was facing an opponent that he just really wasn't expecting.

A healthy Shogun should rip right through Forest, but we have already seen Forest pull the amazing upset. We shall see how it goes but I'm expecting Shogun for the kill in the second round.

Is it really "amazing" when half of his UFC wins are upsets?

Hey John, I was thinking of that fight.... Jones has upped his game since then and landed much nastier shots on Shogun.

Bonnar is one tough SOB and I'll always take my hat off to him. Problem is he'll never be a contender.

That's a good point actually. He doesn't really come in and swing for the fences these days. He looks like he's sparring these days and focuses waaay too much on technique.
