Is it illegal to break a guy's finger in the octagon? Like, if you're on the ground and a guy has your back, can you grab his finger and bend it backwards? Wouldn't that be a submission?

Well, besides the fact that it would leave your arms in a pretty precarious posiiton in terms of armbars and/or triangle attacks from the bottom, it would likely violate the following rule:

"Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea"

.

Are wrists considered small joint? I know you can't attack then fingers toes etc. but you can attack the ankle, which I've seen, but I don't recall ever seeing any kind of wrist lock. Do fighters just not attempt them because of the gloves and tape, which prevent it from being painful enough to tap?

I've never had anyone try to **** choke me, but I imagine if would be pretty impossible to submit someone with it other than a small woman or a child, and that it would be easy to sweep someone who was going for it. On the other hand, maybe you could do it to tempt your opponent into pushing you away, giving you a good armbar opportunity.:dunno:
