No one should get their hopes up too high on Lindland coming to the UFC. His style is not what the UFC is not in line with where the UFC is trying to take the product. I love Matt Lindland, he is a warrior in a half, his attitude is that of a man's man. He will take any fight. He and Dana throw jabs at each other in any interview you can find. Plus he is with IFL and Bodog. Lindland has said he does not want to fight in an organization that can tell him he can only fight for them...(ahem...UFC)
I don't think he will walk through everyone in the MW category but I don't see anyone in the MW walking over him at all.

Lindland hasn't been boring for about 2 years now. Look, I can see someone bashing Lindland's old "Let me smother you" style, but he has incorporated a quickly paced style. You cannot tell me his fights with Lutter, Doerksen, Rampage, and Horn are boring.

matt linland isnt the best in the world at MW right now he is good but definately not the best i dont see him winning over the likes of denis kang, paulo filho (probably the best 185 pounder right now), misaki, or hendo

I was going to start a thread about this but never got around to it...I'm really curious to how the hell lindland is possibly ranked #1 in the world? I know rankings don't mean much and aren't written in stone etc.....but does anyone have reasoning for him being even considered number one?
I'm not questioning the guys skill but I don't see what he's done to deserve a number one ranking? Am I missing something? He's 20-4 which is great record (lost to bustamante, vitale, terrell and jackson) but he hasn't beaten ANYONE in the top 10...(with the exception of horn whose 9th)....so my question is why is he number one? Please enlighten me....I think he would have A LOT of trouble with any of the guys ranked 8 and above from mmaweekly.com....thoughts?

Dana always says he is going to get the best fighters into the UFC and he's doing an O.K. job of it, but when you pride yourself on getting the best fighters why would you let one go you already had under contract over something so stupid. Dana let's his personal opinions get in the way of a lot good deals.

because it is a business.
A possible scenario:
UFC sponsor gives UFC a $20M advert contract with a no compete clause and provides UFC with a list of competitors it does not want to see anywhere. UFC tells venues, fighters, and other associated participants not to display any goods with the 'grey' listed companies on it.
Lindland worth $20M to UFC? If not, then violation of the policy will mean auto termination.
UFC wants to maintain chances for future corporate sponsorship, so they don't want it getting around they make exceptions to the rules for a fighter and spite the corporate sponsor.

BHShaman, I get what you are saying and it makes sense, and I do understand that it is all about money. But then Dana shouldn't say it's all about getting the best fighters for the fans. I fear that worrying about corporate sponsors, instead of just letting the best of the best fight, is a giant step in the wrong direction.
That's "one" of the things that got Boxing screwed up being more worried about money, than fighting the best against the best and letting the fans handle the rest.
