In Herb's defense, Frank was throwing knee's from the bottom(To Renzo's body) a lot during that fight. I don't think Herb thought the first knee to the back of the head was intentional, and he definitely knew something was up after Frank hit the second. The guy has his faults, sure, but I don't think he's a bad ref at all. In fact, I think he's an underappreciated ref. Frank vs Renzo wasn't going to go on longer, since Frank was looking for a way out. Blame Frankie for DQ'ing himself.
Herb saw Tim's arm break. I don't think Mazagatti or Yamasaki would've seen that. I'm also coming around to him stopping Ken vs Tito 2. I mean, how many unanswered elbows must Ken take in that fight? If anything, Herb saved Ken a trip to the hospital.

mazagati looks japanese but has a italian last name?

No, Mazzagati looks Italian and he is. But Mario Yamasaki is the one who looks Japanese but has an Italian first name and a Japanese last name, so he is a mutt....he can't help it although it is funny to think about his name.
I was listening to Michael Savage last night and he was talking about the Frank/Renzo fight and he has no idea about anything about MMA other than his son's company sponsored that fight and he was going on and on about how the guy who lost the fight and got carried out on the stretcher actually won the fight and the guy who won, lost. He was so confused, lol, some people called in trying to explain the rules to him and he asked "Well who was that ref?" and the caller said "Herb Dean" and Savage said "Yea yea Herb Dean I've heard about him that guy sucks they need to get rid of him he is the worst ref ever"....this coming from a guy who knows nothing about MMA and thinks boxing is safer and better...Hahaha, that's pretty bad when he recognizes Herb's name as the shitty ref.

I thought the same thing. I mean, what else was going to happen to Shamrock, had Herb Dean not stepped in? He would have taken more clean elbows which would have resulted in the end of the fight, anyway.
I don't see how anyone can call Herb down for Shamrock/Ortiz II, just because the beating he put on Shamrock wasn't as severe as their first fight.

I dont "trust" Herb as much as the other refs, but didn't Big John decide not to do main events anymore? Isn't that why we're seeing other guys do them?

Said it once before: The refs see things you dont and they talk to the fighters as they are fighing, warning them about position etc and when they are going to stop the fights. People here seem to complain a lot about early stoppages but I think that more often then not that they are legit. Its actually rare that fighters protest a stoppage. Youd be glad a fight was stopped after taking 4-5 undefended shots to the face.

Are you serious? Herb Dean is the shit. He's had a couple bad calls but who hasn't? I think big JOhn is SOOOO overrated and stops every single ****ing fight too early. He is like the UFC poster boy of refs so he has a lot of pressure to stop fights earlier and he always does. Big John sucks ****

I never really liked herb dean, and i dont really like him as a ref. Unfortunatley mario yamasaki and steve mazzaggatti aren't much better.

Something goes wrong in a fight, blame Herb Dean. I think some of you people need to get off that bandwagon. Its not Herb Dean's fault that Frank Shamrock is an idiot. Frank knew what he was doing and screwed himself. Maybe if some of you actually watch the fight instead of reading the play by play on sherdog, you would know this.

Dude what are you talking about, Big John is the best ref in the UFC. As for Herb I think most of his jobs are descent.
I'll admit I first thought he stopped the Ortiz Vs Shamrock a lil early, but after seeing numerous replays it wasn't going to get any better for Shamrock and Ortiz landed a ridiculous amount of elbows.
If Herb hadn't stopped the fight there then Ortiz would've got his wish of hospitalizing Shamrock

Herb Dean is the best referee in the UFC. He has the knowledge, experience, and the balls to make the right call even if he's going to get booed by the fans and ripped appart on forums. herb Dean Keep up the good work.
