A. Silva Forrest Griffin

Hey guys was just wondering if anyone remember or knows where to find the pre hype stuff before the fight. I was on deployment at the time and never got to see any of it. I been reading forrest interviews for his upcomming fight and something about him not being the same since then. Thought it would be cool to know how it was hyped up. Thanks. O and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

UFC 101 DVD, the countdown and what not is all there.

It was hyped up as Forrest being the guy who was gonna get in Anderson's face and make him fight, bigger, stronger, former LHW Champ, all that good stuff. It was after the Leites fight, which was right after the Cote fight so people weren't happy with Anderson after two lack luster fights in a row. Forrest said "Somebody's gonna beat him...might as well be me." Or something very similar along those lines.

Basically it was hyped up as the valiant white man is coming to end the evil black man's reign of terror.(The UFC, fans, and media did this not Forrest) There was a lot of the typical "hard worker" vs "athlete" stuff and I seem to remember them playing up how Forrest is apparently a giant who will dwarf Silva quite a bit. The media and fan stuff was really delusional and crazed but as far as the UFC produced stuff goes it was mostly just your typical build.

I think what Forrest means is that he doesn't make many bold statements about himself, his opponent, or what will happen in the fight anymore. He might feel like he bought into his own hype and fought a stupid fight because of it. Being publicly humiliated like that will make you not want to draw attention to yourself as well.

The BSNSupplements channel on Youtube also had some great training footage and interviews, made a whole series of them through the camp. Good insight into Forrest before the fight

I've now watched that fight approximately 23 times now. Each time it still amazes me. That along with countless other fights are his defining moments. It was like the equivalent of a tennis player winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 or a shutout except it wasn't a flash knockout or submission. It was methodical and calculating.

Anderson could have finished it earlier, but he allowed Forrest to continue as long as he could til he gave up. That's how you break an opponent down. There's tapping, but Forrest straight up waived to him, "no mas."
