The Randy Couture Issue!

When people heard that he was coming back to fight Tim Sylvia, the response was somewhat lukewarm. Most of the complaints that I heard were kind of stupid in my opinion!

All I kept hearing was Randy is old and should have stayed retired because he doesn't have what it takes and he's afraid of Chuck Liddell.

1. Randy should have stayed retired! Okay, so he ruined the perfect ending to a story book career. Personally, I really didn't care if he did ruin the perfect ending. The man wants to fight so he should be respected for that. This isn't a man who is still stuck in the 90's like Ken Shamrock. You all should know that Randy will put up a good fight. Personally, I'd rather see Randy Couture in the octagon then doing commantary anytime.

2. Randy Couture is old and will get destroyed? That has always been the story before he fights a major player and he usually kicks thier a$$. You people constantly bring up how he got destroyed by Chuck Liddell, but Chuck destroys much younger guys. I am talking guys who are 10 years younger then Randy.

3. Randy went to the heavyweight division because he is afraid of Chuck Liddell! What a load of horse sh*t. This man had fought Liddell three times. THREE TIMES!!!! If Randy could he probably would fight Liddell for a fourth time. But do you honestly think that the UFC is going to make Chuck Liddell vs. Randy Couture 4. Fans will see this fight as redundant. Nobody will pay to see it. SO Randy did the next best thing! He moved up a weight class.

Those are pretty much my thoughts on the issues concerning Randy Couture!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

I'm not saying he is a god, I'm sorry if it sounds that way. I know Randy can be beaten. I'm trying to say he should get a little more respect then what he's been getting.

I agree with you Bonnar, I think that Randy can't do the right thing in some people's eyes. There is no way that they would have a Couture/Liddell 4 I see this as his only real chance to come back with any major fight.

And I don't feel that you are saying he is a God by anymeans.

hmm. I"m not to sure about this topic. Seems to me most of the reactions right after the fight was announced was more like. We want Randy to win,but we dont think he can beat Tim(for a variety of reasons). Thats the main reaction and I dont see an issue with it. Maybe I've missed some threads, but I really haven't noticed alot of disrespect for Randy, just mostly people dont think he can beat Tim is all.

People are giving there opinions

my thoughts are, Randy came back, into the HW class because of Mirko Cro Cop. As fans we may not understand this, why would someone want to fight a #1 ranked HW figher, because it's great competition for them. They want to face the best, win or lose. This is the kind of fighter Randy is.
I don't agree with this, but I can somewhat understand it.
Whatever happens vs Tim, I'll bet Randy will beg for a bout against Cro Cop if he doesn't win. I truely believe this is whats it's all about.
Even Chuck Liddell wants a piece of Cro Cop now, says he'll move up to HW to face him. Top fighters, want to face top talent, it's just in them. Chuck may get his wish, win or lose, he'll live to fight another day.
Randy vs Tim, not sure how it go, I'm guessing Tim will win. But, I'm sorry, I do not want to see 44 year old Randy up against 32 year old Mirko Cro Cop in his prime. You may cheer and chant "Randy can do it", but he won't, he'll be lucky to leave alive. If Tim doesn't hurt him bad, Cro Cop surely will.

thats how I see it

I think White would be happier to see Sylvia lose at the moment than Liddell to Couture, granted Liddell defeated Couture convincingly but the UFC has big fights coming up at 205, if Sylvia loses Cro Cop vs Couture would be a good fight i would love to see Cro Cop tested on the ground.

"This is the last time you're going to see these gloves or these shorts in this octagon. I'm retiring tonight. I'd like to thank the fans for all their support. That's it for me. I'm ready to do something else." - Randy Couture

I dislike it when people say one thing and do another. Doesn't matter if it is Jordan, Lemieux, whoever, if you retire, you should stay retired.

Agreeed.

I just feel randy coming out of retirement is gunna ruin things for him. I like randy alot, and i wanted to see him just stay in retirement, because honestly, i really don't think he can hang witht he top HW's in the UFC. I mean Cro Cop (the name says it all), Sylvia (i know people don't like him, but he has got some skill, and he's got randy's number in my books) Werdum ( an amazing fighter) Arlovski ( got some work to do to get back on track, wasn't to pleased with his last win). I mean i could see randy possibly beating Sylvia, and just barely beating Arlovski but i doubt that would happen. Randy has been passed by in the world off mma, and if he proves me wrong, well i ll just stfu.

Favourite fighters:

1. Mirko Cro Cop
2. Rampage Jackson
3. Chuck Liddell
4. Anderson Silva
5. Mark Hunt

As rated said, retiring and then coming out of retirement is just dumb. Say what you mean and do what you say. But thats beyond the point. The reason he's getting a bad response is because he is fighting a better fighter. Yes, that makes him the underdog and he always does better in that role. But I believe Sylvia has a right to feel like the underdog as well dont you? He wont have a fan in the house and he's coming off a couple unimpressive performances. He'll be ready to go and he'll beat Randy.
