I really feel for this guy. But I do think people deal with death in different ways. I know some close friends of mine who have lost a loved one, come to reflect on their own mortality and become inspired to live there life to the fullest. He may fight totally fearless and we could see a new Sheilds.

Considering he lost what could be the most important thing to him, he may now have nothing to loose.

Wow that's gotta suck. Not only a father but a father whom you dealt with as a manager on a professional level. Manager/Coach/Mentor.... that's a different kind of loss...

Jakes a warrior and I wouldn't want to be Ellenberger that night if Shields comes in focused and on his game.... especially after all the smack he's talked.

It's very courageous and admirable, props to shields and my deepest condolences to him.

But don't know if it's wise? Ellenberger's no pushover, and losing someone so close can really affect your mental game. Then again, maybe he'll be even more focused, if he wants to dedicate a big win to his dad and do him proud.

I can already see the scenario, Shields enters to a huge pop, highly emotional, wearing a shirt in memory of his dad.

Makes quick work of Ellenberger (hopefully), and celebrates, definitely cries during the post fight interview while getting a standing ovation.

Wow. Massive respect for this guy. I've never been a fan but this really hit home.

My father also passed away at a young age (I was 19). My father had taken me / gone with me to wrestling tournaments weekly for nearly 10 years. After he passed I didn't even want to look at a wrestling mat for 6 months. It was terrible. Everyone reacts to things differently but either way this can't be easy for Shields to just take a fight immediately.

It was obvious in the primetime how close they were. I think I just became a Shields fan.

Edit: Of course, UFC OWNS negs me for talking about my dead father. Very nice.

RIP Jordan Corder. Watch over me from above brother.

what... ellenburger nearly KO'd condit when he had his first fight in the ufc, just KO'd pierson like he was nothing, he stopped pyle ,the only one to stop john howard and KO'd pele in like 5 seconds. you cant even compare his striking to crappy shields striking
