Griffin possibly out for 6 months

Quote:
Former UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin has only entered the Octagon twice since 2009 and, unfortunately, it appears fans will have awhile to wait before he returns again – possibly even another six months – based on damage he sustained in a knockout loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last weekend at UFC 134.
According to a list of medical suspensions provided to MixedMartialArtsNews by the UFC, who oversaw the event themselves due to a lack of standard athletic commission in Brazil, Griffin is suspended for 180 days due to foot and jaw injuries though can come back sooner with a doctor’s clearance.
Three other athletes share a similar fate to Griffin’s with Stanislov Nedkov (nasal fracture), Raphael Assuncao (nasal fracture), and Ian Loveland (chest) also being handed a mandated vacation for 180 days until getting a green-light from a physician.

Here is the complete list of casualties from UFC 134:
Yves Jabouin – Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days (precautionary reasons)
Ian Loveland – Suspended 180 days (possible chest injury), though can be cleared early by a physician; suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days (precautionary reasons)
Yuri Alcantara – Suspended seven days (precautionary reasons)
Felipe Arantes – Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Erick Silva – Suspended seven days (precautionary reasons)
Luis Ramos – Suspended 40 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Raphael Assuncao – Suspended 180 days (possible nasal fracture), though can be cleared early by a physician; suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days (precautionary reasons)
Dan Miller – Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Rousimar Palhares – Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Thiago Tavares – Suspended seven days (precautionary reasons)
Luiz Cane – Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days (precautionary reasons)
Stanislav Nedkov – Suspended 180 days (possible nasal fracture), though can be cleared early by a physician; suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Brendan Schaub – Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Ross Pearson – Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Forrest Griffin – Suspended 180 days (possible right-foot and jaw injuries), though can be cleared early by a physician; suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
Yushin Okami – Suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days (precautionary reasons)
This can't do good to his career or morale.

He has a new baby and plenty of money. I think it'll do him the world of good. Just what he needs.

I agree, Forrest needs to do one of two things. He needs to focus, or retire. This could be the time to do it.

Forrest should retire. He's already achieved more than he can nowadays, he's got a big balance and obviously doesn't enjoy the hard work associated with MMA anymore. Completely understandable.

I love watching this man fight, but if his heart isn't in it anymore I believe it would be very good for him to just exit stage left and leave us with the good memories. Maybe he could join Stephan Bonnar as an announcer or something?

It's time for him to retire. He's taken plenty of damage, he isn't motivated, he is awful at gameplanning and hasn't improved in ages.

It's hard to watch a guy going in just for money and getting knocked out.

I wasn't suggesting he should quit. Rather, take the 6 months and enjoy his family. See how he feels by next spring. I suspect a period away from hard training and fighting will sort him right out.

You probably are right. Couldn't imagine going back to a training camp after just having your baby.

Before getting knocked out again by any of the top guys. Seems a bit pointless don't you think?
