UFC extends fight contracts for Ben Henderson & Carlos Condit

Quote:
Rising MMA stars Ben “Smooth” Henderson and “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit have agreed to new multi-fight contracts with the UFC, First Round Management President and CEO Malki Kawa announced. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

“These fight contract extensions show the MMA world that the UFC values Ben Henderson and Carlos Condit as two of its top, young stars,” Kawa said. “Both are only 27 years old and have proven that they are contenders for titles in their weight divisions and also have strong fan bases. Fans will now be able to see them continue to grow in the octagon.”

Henderson holds a 14-2 professional record, and is 2-0 in the UFC after previously holding the WEC Lightweight championship. In his last fight at UFC Live on Versus 5, Henderson dominated Jim Miller. He currently trains at the MMA Lab in Glendale, Ariz.

“I am excited that I will have the opportunity to continue to compete in the UFC, and I want to thank the UFC for believing in me and my abilities,” Henderson stated.

Condit, who trains at Jackson’s Submission Fighting in Albuquerque, N.M., holds a 27-5 professional record and has won his last four fights and 12 of his last 13 bouts overall. His last three wins have ended via KO/TKO. He will next face BJ Penn in a Welterweight showdown at UFC 137 on Oct. 29.

“I am honored to receive an extension before my next fight, as it shows the level of confidence the UFC has in me. I can’t wait to show the fans how much my training for this next fight has paid off,” Condit said.

I like Condit a LOT!....but man..... BJ's a tough draw for anyone... If BJ's got his head on straight this fight could be dynamite!!!

My concern as a Condit fan is that I wonder if he can take a punch from BJ and continue to be effective. I don't think he has the boxing to stand and trade with BJ in that discipline.... Muy Thai is a different animal....but I am concerned that he may get clipped early in the fight, before Penn's (typically) poor cardio comes into play...and find himself at the wrong end of BJ's heavy hands.

And if the fight goes to the gound?....wow!! If it's early in the fight when it happens, it's hard to imagine BJ getting submitted...which means it's condit on the wrong end of things again.

Having said all this.... I think Condit has the capability to win this fight. ...certainly via decision....but if the fight is stopped....well....Hughes is the only guy to ever get a TKO stoppage other than the GSP fight where the corner threw in the towel, which I think is technically a TKO stoppage....anyway... Penn has never been submitted has he? he's just to slick on the ground.. so....Condit via UD after 3 is my pick.

WAR CONDIT!!

"He's just a regular guy, just another guy, we both weigh the same......but he finds a way to win, and I admire it." - Chael Sonnen 07/07/12

Condit is the perfect example of the kind of fighter I like to watch. I don't care if he ever wins a title or experiences a few more losses. Good to know he will be around for the foreseeable future.
