He fights safe, and as such, puts on boring finishes and in his last 10 fights he's - 6 decisons - 1 loss - 3 finishes (if you count the BJ fight), the 3 finishes being Matt Serra (not impressive), Matt Hughes (not all that amazing) and Penn (a natural LW that could fight at 145 who gassed in the second round).

So, just to make it clear, no one is saying GSP doesn't have skill or the ability to finish, in fact it's the exact opposite - people are upset that he DOES have the skill to finish, but CHOOSES not to.

It baffles me how anyone can assert that GSP fights not to win.
I mean, there are only three possibilites when he goes into the octagon: he's throwing the fight (fighting to lose); he's fighting for a draw; or he's fighting to win.

I have no problem with guys saying he doesn't look for the finish- that's fair enough (irrelevant, but fair)- but to say this guy "fights not to win", when he's done nothing but win for years, is flat out wrong.

He fights to not lose, obviously he fights to win. By "he doesn't fight to win or finish" I mean he's not going out there looking to put it all out there and get a win. He's looking to coast, looking to score points and avoid any sort of risks whatsoever.

He can literally drop someone (shields) and not go in for the kill because he's afraid of taking risks.

Obviously I didn't literally mean he doesn't fight to win, that would be silly.

So to clarify further, you (and many others) simply don't like/respect the way GSP wins.

There's no way GSP is looking to coast. He's usually waiting for an opponent to make an error, and that often results in him either sitting back waiting for a counter opportunity, or on the ground, staying on top and taking what's available, without sacrificing the dominant position.

GSP has publicly stated he doesn't take risks and fights safe. It shows in his 70% decision rate in his last 10 fights.

As for respect, no, others and myself don't respect his fighting style. He fights to play it safe and try to not lose, rather than trying to actually fight and go out there and put on a show/try to finish.

You realize there are people out there that can't stand BJ Penn, but LOVE to watch him fight? There's no denying Penn is an exciting/entertaining fighter. He goes out there to finish, that's how he fights.

GSP? It doesn't matter how nice he is or what kind of person he is - he doesn't get mine or many people's respect for his casual, coasting/safe fighting style.
