He can still get it, provided he beats Penn and GSP beats Condit. If Condit were to win I don't think a Diaz/Condit fight would be as big a draw, if he loses then the chance is gone. Like someone else mentioned two dominant champions getting to fight right as each has cleaned out their division in the two biggest organizations. Seems like it would have been a really big pay day, especially with PPV cut.

Diaz was punished for no-showing in a big way, including being taken out of a fight he’s wanted for years and basically his career in UFC was at stake if he wouldn’t have faced Penn, The difference in what he’s going to make fighting Penn in the semifinal with what he would have made against St. Pierre is said to be in the seven figures due to the PPV cut. He’s also out of the title picture, at least for this year. He’s gone from seven figures, even if he lost, to essentially very slightly more than he would have made had he fought Tyron Woodley in Strikeforce for the welterweight title he vacated to get the St. Pierre fight.
And Nick Diaz just won the Dumbass of the Year Award!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

It is just staggering! All Diaz has trumpeted for years is how disrespected he has been, how he hates fighting for peanuts, how he deserves to get paid, and how he is going to boxing for the $$.

Finally given The fight for THE title with THE guy for all the money he has been obsessively craving, Nick Diaz flushed it all down the toilet. It is really, really shocking to me. A win or even a competitive fight w/GSP could have changed his career / earning potential immeasurably, and thus the financial quality of his life.

In the end, it's clear he did not really want all of this, or he would have done whatever it took to realize this ambition. If he really wanted it, he would have gotten on his bike and ridden it to Vegas for the press conference.

I guess it's easier to talk sh@t about GSP and what it takes to be "the man" than to step into the crucible of that white-hot spot light that is GSP's (and other UFC champion's) existence, and thrive under that pressure and scrutiny. Nick clearly couldn't handle it.

ah, nm. must be

I would feel bad for Nick if he didn't already have so many chances and so many opportunities. Nick has just ****ed up on a regular basis for what seems like too long. I really hope BJ wrecks him now.

Lets face it if diaz went into this fight just intending to lose he'd still have walked away with what 1.2mill? 1.5mill? Thats the kind of money you could walk away from the sport with and this is worst case scenario. If he had actually won.. The dude would be raking in money by the ass load.
I obviously wasn't privy to their agreements, but if Diaz had the same PPV bonus scale that Randy had*, he lost even more. This was Randy's marginal bonus per buy:

100k-175k buys $1
175k-300k buys $1.5
300k-330k buys $2
330k-330k+ buys $3

If the Fight with GSP brought 800k buys that'd be a $1,732,500 bonus for Diaz.

* It's four years old, so there's no guarantee it's still accurate. But it's the only official PPV bonus scale that was ever released.

Some people think that they can convey either a philosophy on life or a complex political statement using a signature on the internet. I'm not one of them.

That's what I was thinking. Nick whines and moans about wanting to "get paid" and once he gets his shot to actually make it big he goes and pulls this crap. He deserves what he gets.

Just had a thought - when Penn gets through with Diaz, they should feed Diaz to Kampmann.

I think Kampmann would beat him soundly (especially if Penn demoralized him first) and would be a great boost to Martin's career.
