I know the game is always pushing people towards a title, but most guys will just never get there. Maybe it's time to just enjoy where he's at, make some big bonuses and put on some great shows. Or maybe if he suddenly improves drastically or the champs retire/deteriorate, make another run.

If a paycheck and gatekeeper/perennial contender status is not worth it, then it's best to retire and coach... live your dreams vicariously through your students as they say .
Bravo bro, you definitely said it best. That is perfect.

After he losses to Aldo, he will probably have the chance to work his way toward one more title shot at FW, but I dont think he will ever hold the belt. Even if he did somehow manage to pull off a crazy upset, he has zero chance of beating Mendes. The guys wrestling isnt terrible, but it is nowhere near top tier. People use the Guida fight as an example, but I think his first fight at 145 was more telling. He got taken down multiple times by a guy that was much smaller then him and doesnt specialize in wrestling. Nunes has good wrestling, but it isnt anyhing amazing. I dont think moving down a weight class was the right move. Sure it got Florian a title shot, but Aldo does everything much better. At least Florian had an edge in a couple departments when it came to the guys at the top at 155.

This Kenny will likely never be champ but there is nothing wrong with that. Most fighters will never even make it into the UFC, Kenny did that, he has had a great career and will have fought for a title 3 times. Its an acomplishent that in itself few will ever reach.

Aldo is going to retire Kenny. He is 35 and has talked about retiring soon in the past and he won't have any avenues to title fights left.

It all depends on the fight i guess, if he get's tooled in every department and eventually finished i might see him retiring.

Whatever he does, he still has earned 3 title fights in his career in the UFC, that shows a lot. Most of the fighters try to work up their way to even contend for the title just once.

He earned one title shot which was the BJ fight. He had one fight at both 155 and 145 for the other two and the Nunes fight wasn't exactly a clear cut victory. There is no legitimate argument for Kenny to even be fighting for the title over Mendes.

That's crazy, How many wins in the UFC did Silva have before he fought for the title? How many UFC wins did Lesnar have before he fought for the title? That's never been a factor.

I love Kenny, he just seems like he is one small notch below the very top tier. He can beat everyone else and work his way up there, but he can't be the likes of BJ.

That being said, I was extremely underwhelmed by Sherks win over him. All Sherk did was hold him down and cuddle with him for 5 rounds. Kenny did all the damage.

But against BJ, he was just outmatched at that time. But if I was a LW fighter and the only guy I couldn't beat was BJ, I could live with that.

As far as Aldo goes. Well, unless I am mistaken, they haven't faught yet. On Paper, Jose should dominate. But they don't fight on paper. So let's see what happens before we personally decide Kenny's future for him.

Anderson was the cage rage MW champion and destroyed a top contender in his first UFC fight. Kenny had 1 fight at 155 before he fought for the title and had never defeated anyone good prior to that. Brock didn't earn his title shot either he was given it because Randy wanted to fight him.

I like the idea of Kenny taking on the philosophy of Lytle, and going out there with some reckless abandon. Don't think he will do it, however, and I'm not sure he'd have the chin to equal the amount of punishment that Lytle can walk through, in order to fight the way that he does.

Florian is a considerably better and bigger fighter than Hominick who gave Aldo some trouble, I don't think I'd consider an Aldo win a forgone conclusion. Obviously Aldo is the favourite but I wouldn't be stunned by Florian winning.
