Dana White: Everything Will Change in January

Quote:
It was a minor enough part of the UFC on Fox announcement, but when it was said that the "Gladiator Intro" was going away with the new network deal many fans were excited. There was a feeling that the intro, among other parts of the UFC presentation, felt dated and was no longer "cutting edge."

UFC president Dana White is now making it clear that the new look will not start with the special Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos event on November 12. Via Yahoo! Sports:

"I look at this Fox deal as a fresh start for us, so I want to change everything," he stated. "I want to change the look of the pay-per-view, graphics, show open, the show opens in our Fight Nights, everything's going to have a different feel to it.

"We'll be working with these guys, I love what they do in sports, and to enhance the look and feel of a UFC event."

...

"The way that this thing is gonna start is, this thing is gonna be a Fox Sports show, the first fight that we do. The November fight is just a bonus fight," stated White. "We don't get into business with Fox until January. So everything will change in January."

It's nice to see Dana admitting publicly that the production can get better and that there are things they can learn from a more experienced network. There are some theories that it was pressure from Fox more than an overwhelming desire on the UFC's part, but a new, fresh look and approach to production is something that the UFC needs.

Even with all the great fights on the horizon, I'm arguably most excited to see what the new look of the UFC will be in 2012.

It would be sweet if they had a pre fight and post fight show that was formatted like fox NFL sunday. Have Couture, Pat Militech, Bas and maybe the dude from mma live. I would dig that.

That would be great. A pre and post fight show would be excellent.

The whole gladiator intro, plus the cheesy old music and graphics they play when they go over the "tale of the tape" really needs to be updated. There's a lot of room for improvement and modernization in the production department, and I look forward to seeing some good changes!

Hmm, not sure what to think of this.

I actually like the way the UFC is presented as it is now. Change doesn't mean bad, but it doesn't mean good, either.

I'll wait and see what it's like before judgement.

I am not a fan of the Gladiator Intro, that was cool a when it first cam out but the UFC has moved on since then, I am more than happy with it having more of a "Sports Feel" to it, if that makes sense.

Don;t want to lose Rogan or Goldie though, that's something I would be very happy with, but I guess it depends on how much UFC is going to be on Fox moving forward

Im in agreement with this.

Its kinda one of the things I like about the UFC. It's original. Sure the sport is for entertainment, but it's also been about the fights.

The way it's done doesnt bother me, but that because i love mma. I could easily see how changing things would catch more viewers and draw more interest from people that have never seen it before, but the people on this forum.. we aren't just casual fans so you have to think about it that way.

If you had never seen a UFC, would you be more appealed to these classic gladiator entrances or a WWE/PRIDE-sort-of entrance? Pretty easy assessment for me. (And no im not really comparing wwe entrances to the way ufc would be because most of them are really out there but i remember back in the day the "Goldberg" entrances where he came out to the sparks, that was cool :P)

I don't like it at all so far. I like the gladiator the feel of a UFC event where I doubt that the Fox into will have that feel. I don't really watch sports per say and have never really cared for the way they are presented. I am fully expecting to like the UFC a little less come January.
