Buakaw, who is more deserving at this point?
Chael is widely regarded as the #2 MW, and is ranked ahead of Okami, Munoz, Belfort, Marquardt, Stann, etc.
But we know rankings don't always determine title fights either. Prime example is Lesnar, who started his UFC career with a loss to Mir, then beat an old, rotten can in Herring, and then got a title shot vs Couture. Mir beat Lesnar, then Nogueira, and then got to watch Lesnar fight for the title...
As we all know Silva doesn't have a ton of fights left. I don't want to see him using his last few fights to dance around his competition, hands at his side and taunting. It's disrespectful (not only to the opponent, but to the paying fans who want the best fights) and makes the UFC look bad. I doubt he will try that against Sonnen, so at least the fans are getting their money worth.
After reading the BlackHouseMMA response, I somewhat get the impression they don't want to fight Sonnen, but maybe that's just me. If Silva isn't ready Superbowl weekend, I'm sure Sonnen would be willing to wait a few more months -- unless Silva is planning to take half a year off. If they feel there is someone else more deserving I'd really like to know who that is. If you have Munoz at #4 or 5, then he is the only top 5 Silva currently hasn't fought. Munoz has fought one top 5 MW (Okami) and lost, so I really don't think he's ready. If he beats Leben in November then consider him for a #1 contender fight. His biggest fight (and biggest loss) to date was against a guy Silva just TKOed, so I don't see how he deserves Silva.
Given that Silva only has a limited number of fights, I'd rather see the Sonnen rematch then Silva vs. Munoz, who I (and I'm sure many others) feel is 1-2 wins away from a title shot. And I certainly don't want to see Silva's last few fights against guys that aren't even in the top 5... that's just a waste.
I get the impression that BlackhouseMMA wants Silva to go out on top and retire with the belt (completely understandable), but he shouldn't be allowed to do that against fighters who would be 7 or 10:1 underdogs, especially when somebody who beat him for 4.5 rounds is available. If that's what he's trying to do, just retire now and go out on top, the guy seems to be hurt for every fight now anyways.
