what does edgar have to do to be rated as the no.1 LW of all time

i know its early, but if you look at his resume, the kid could be rated over BJ within a fight or two imo

he has 2 wins over bj, an extremely impressive victory over maynard, sherk etc.... so, in your opinion, what would you have to see from him to over take BJ as the greatest of all time

the next opponents for him to potentially defend against, in theory, could be... melendez, pettis, guida, bendo.... theres obviously a sh1t load more LW's out there for him, which will all come in time, but them 4 at the minute look like his biggest threats, or certainly his most immediate threats...

i personally think if he takes out 3 of these 4 then there cant be much argument as him being the greatest

Ive got a black belt in nuttin & im not afraid to use it

In my eyes, he would need to defend his belt at least 5 or 6 times, AND have 3-4 finished in those defences.

I just checked BJ's record and he only defended his LW title 3 times.

He is generally considered the best LW ever isnt he?

That was my point so 1 more will seal it and this div is way more crowded than the BJ era

I still think for me he'd need to defend it another 3 or 4 times... with finishes

Well considering this is the most crowded division in the history of MMA, and he beat the former champion who was the best and in his prime 2 times and ended the undefeated streak of a HUGE lw and coming back both times and also finishing him one of those times. I think 1 more win seals it.

Problem is he's shown vulnerability although he's made miraculous comebacks. Maynard is NOT a very intelligent fighter. That's what's keeping him from winning. Look at what he says in interviews...he's not the brightest.

Mind you I was rooting for Edgar cuz man who doesn't root for someone with that much heart, but Maynard had it in the bag. First time he couldn't finish, the second time he lets go of the gas pedal and lets Frankie get right back into it.

I believe Maynard will meet Edgar again in two - three years and Maynard will take it. Every day he trains he will be thinking about HOW CLOSE he got and that is what will fuel his burning desire to win.

In the meantime I still go with BJ, but Edgar gets the nod if he defends against two more opponents. Technically Maynard was his first defense.

- Guillard would have posed an interesting challenge...in fact I think Guillard would be able to take out Edgar. But he's another fighter who's mindset isn't all there. His overconfidence cost him the fight.

- Pettis
- Guida
- Bendo
- Gilbert Melendez

Those mentioned are all legitimate challengers.

He already is, penn is and always has been overrated and Edgar has already shown he is better then penn. Penns success like many others was a product of a weak talent pool back in the day, guys like Edgar would have dominated easily back then. Heck all you have to do is look at their records to notice edgar has already beaten more top quality opponents then Penn ever did.
