I actually love Carwin's fighting, it's not the most technical, it's not the most fluid, it's not the quickest... he's just a really tough, powerful fighter and you will know about it some point in the fight.

Carwin is the big bad dinosaur of the division and is huge trouble to anyone besides JDS and Cain, so despite him probably never going to hold the belt, this is very sad news.

If Carwin was in Pride, we'd probably be talking about him as one of the best HW's ever. The Brock fight was unfortunate, JDS is the only man to take it to Carwin without getting smashed up. I hope to see him fight again.

by the time he's back the UFC will have many great HW additions from SF and he'll be right at the bottom of the pile. I don't think hes that good and it's size and power alone that have got him where he is. That said I will always want to see big guys throw down.

I hope he comes back healthy for another run.
He is a bad matchup for EVERYONE in the HW division.

Well he could either retire and never try again and have to get the surgery in a few years anyways or get surgery now while he is in his prime shape and attempt a comeback after recovery. The choice seemed easy to me and from the article it was just as easy for him.

Hope he comes back, he'll never be champ but he'll always be entertaining as hell.

Sucks for him, he probably won't ever become champion because of his age and injuries. Not having him around til next year makes the UFC HW division that much more shallow

Enjoy watching Carwin and I had to love his heart against Dos Santos. I wonder though, if he isn't on the downward slope of his career, considering his age and all the injuries he has had.
