I don't think all the organizations should be in the same ranking. They use different rules a rings. If they aren't exactly the same then they should be ranked seperately. How can you say one champ is better than the other if they haven't fought each other yet.

Championship belts are meassuring sticks to see who the best is. The guy who holds the belt is the best in the divison of the organization he is the champion of. Thats the whole purpose of title belts. It is why everyone wants to fight for the title and wants to be a champion. So with that in mind, the champions of each respective division in the UFC should be no lower than #2 (or #1 if you want to argue about Pride) seeing that it is arguably the biggest and most prestigous MMA organization in the world (again its debatable with Pride). Its really simple logic.

So are you saying if someone like Sherk just crushes a bunch of cans and then beats Diaz(as I said before, Diaz is more significent of a win now) and Florian, he should be ranked above someone like Gomi who has been winning against all the top competition? Yes, they are based on who is winning the fights, but they are also based on the level of the opponent they lost to/beat. The champions should be ranked one and two is good and all, but it can't really be applied when one organization has a clearly better roster in that weight class. Eg: LW Division.

Support Mixed Martial Arts, not Ultimate Fighting

Thats why I said he should be ranked no lower than #2 (maybe #1 now considering that Gomi just lost but thats debatable). But the fact that the UFC LW Champion was not even ranked shows how little credability this rankings list really has.

While your logic is simple, I don't think it reflects who is 'best'.
I actually prefer a ranking who ranks the top fighters based on their shown ability rather than what the rank is of the current organization they are in. there are more factors involved.

BJ is a prime example. He lost his last two fights but I still think he is deadly.

But that opens up a huge can of worms as everyone has a different definition on what skilled is or who is the best without an actuall scientific way to rank them. Everyones bias and personal taste will creep in.

I think Frank Mir is one of the most skilled HWs today but that doesn't automatically mean he should be ranked in the top 10 because he has lost 2 of his last 3 fights. But if we took the win-lose factor out when determining rankings and I'm the guy doing the ranknig than he will automatically get a high number. See what I mean.

Sherk is not a top 10 lightweight? That discredits them completely.

I love me some Mach, but yea, what the hell?

I stopped giving a damn about rankings a while ago. Yea, it's nice to keep up with what's current, but if you can't even rank people right, then why bother?
