Tim Sylvia's Opponents Conspiracy Theory
This is just something I've noticed.
We all know that Sylvia's gone cold, but I think the UFC is trying to fix that before having him fight CroCop, Gonzaga or Werdum.
Look at Monson, he's a 5'9" grappler. He's a great fighter, but he's exactly the kind of opponent that Sylvia is expected to KO. Unfortunately, his boxing experience kept him alive on his feet.
Look at Couture. Couture doesn't have the boxing experience Monson has. He's still six inches shorter than Sylvia, and he's never fought anyone with Sylvia's reach advantage. This is another opponent that Sylvia should, on paper at least, KTFO.
So here's what I think the UFC is doing:
I think that the UFC is throwing short grapplers, who they assume can't strike, at Sylvia, with the hope that he'll KO someone and get back on track.
I don't think it'll work, because I really don't see the Tim Sylvia that we've been seeing beating Couture in any way other than by decision.
The UFC could have let Vera have a shot at Sylvia, but the fact of the matter is, Vera is definitely not going to get KO'd by Sylvia.
