Bleacher Report Suggests Belfort v Johnson Was Fixed

The article has been taken down. But I did say this after the fact, Dan was the ref during the Kimbo Slice James Thompson fight in the Elite XC. Thompson was arguably winning the fight and Dan stopped the fight at the first possible chance. EliteXC was revealed to have been "fixing fights." I'm not saying the UFC fixes all fights, but I did kind of feel like Dana made it clear to Dan that Johnson should not be able to use his size in the fight. And remember there is no athletic commission in Brazil....

Think. It Ain't Illegal Yet

Bleacher Report is awful, people go on there and just type up whatever the hell they want, that said those stand ups did seem a bit, in fact Vitor was the one who was actually working, when Dan stood them up he had his leg up and looked like he might have been going for an omaplata, then in the third stand up Vitor pretty much neutralized him on the ground and they stood them up after about five seconds of Rumble putting his head on Vitor's chest.

yea bleacher report isn't credible at all. its basically a big ass online blog for anyone who can type, come pretend to be an analyst on whatever sport they're going off about. but like you, i agree with everything said, the stand ups were iffy at best. i also noticed vitor going for the submission attempt when dan stood them up. it was a very strange fight, but after the whole weigh in fiasco, i'm not surprised.

I don't doubt that Dan was reacting to the Brazilian fans, and perhaps even out of his own personal sense of dissatisfaction with AJ and the weigh-in fiasco... but I'd not go any further. A referee, with added pressure from the fans, decided to teach AJ a bit of a lesson... simple as.

Some of BR articles are pure garbage and yet i visit the site a lot. Fact is it can't be a ficed fight IMO, referees work for the athletic commission and i doubt the UFC executives would just go in there and start throwing money to refs.

Dan could have reacted to the crowd however but that is not the definition of a fixed fight.

As hard as Dana has worked to make MMA a sport everyone reconizes I doubt he would risk getting caught up in a fixed fight. To many risks and mouths that could flab the truth.

I'm not implying it definitely happened but throwing money at Dan to keep it a stand up heavy match is not exactly the craziest thing in the world. In fact, I'd be surprised if something crooked DIDN'T happen. It's a business and shit happens. Sucks but sometimes it just comes with the territory.
