Silva DQ still stands, Zuffa implements instant replay at all self-regulated events
Quote:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship released a statement today regarding the outcome of UFC 142’s welterweight bout between Erick Silva and Carlo Prater. Silva was disqualified during the bout for landing what the referee deemed to be illegal strikes. Marc Ratner, UFC Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, issued the following statement:
“Based on the referee’s verbal warnings and his determination that the blows were intentional and a disqualifying foul, this is not the type of decision that can be reviewed. Therefore, the decision stands. Recently, Zuffa has decided to implement the use of instant replay at all international events that are self-regulated, and to encourage all regulators to consider the feasibility and effectiveness of instant replay in the sport of MMA. While instant replay would not have reversed the call in the Silva-Prater bout, we believe that it could be valuable to referees and the sport in the future.”
Zuffa also noted that Silva was awarded his potential Win Bonus following the contest.

Oh well, it's not that bad of a situation.
Silva's loss will never be considered a loss and we get a new replay system for foreign countries.
Win, win.

If it wasn`t of Joe Hogan, 90% of the people wouldn`t be screaming against this DQ.. Even he couldn`t believe his words about clear strikes while watching the replay. I`d say Erick is a new vitor belfort

Good decisions all around. Keeping the DQ is right: it was necessary to send the message strikes to the back of the head are not tolerated - Silva was warned, yet he landed at least one clear and clean strike to the back of the head right before the ref stopped it (rewatch it if you don't believe me). And the decision to introduce instant replays is also good.
And agree with czaq: Joe Rogan's behavior was unprofessional and clueless.

That's complete bullshit. The UFC just rewarded a fighter that used illegal strikes to end a fight.
The instant replay won't do anything if the ref can watch the footage, see illegal strikes, DQ the guy and then ZUFFA gives him a win bonus.

An astute observation drunk sir. I think a DQ loss is the new horseshoe and four-leaf clover. Anderson's last loss? DQ to Okami followed by toying with the world's top middleweights for half a decade. Bones? DQ to Hamill and a path strewn with wrecked LHW elites since.
Erick should be celebrating

Based on what Ratner is saying, the UFC actually agrees with the DQ even with video replay. Interesting.
However it increases his stock because he dominated and showed what he is capable of, not because the UFC believes he won--they agree it should be a DQ based on the letter of the rule.
