Do the organizations protect certain fighters?

I've just noticed this recently between UFC and Pride. It seems like they have ceratin people who are good for the image as champs and they tend to give them fights that they will win instead of fights that deserve to be. For instance last night with Rich Franklin... I mean Jason McDonald is a decent fighter but he didn't deserve that fight with Franklin.. at least not yet. I think Swick was definitely the one who deserved that fight and the winner should have gotten the title shot. Instead they give him an easy vic. In Pride everyone knows Takanori Gomi as the man, and they almost never make him defend his title. I may be overanalyzing this, but i've just noticed it recently. any thoughts?

I think its pretty obvious they protect certain fighters. They just hand them some B or b+ level fighter, and say they have the style to beat them. Its always gunna happen, these organizations are in it for the money, and if they keep letting their big guns getting beat then they run out of "poster boys"( and i hate using that, but thats what they are, or spokespersons for the ufc i guess).
