Timmy's First Real Beatdown!

In his 2 pryor losses he,

had his arm broken by Mir (fight stopped)
Got caught in a leg lock by Arlovski (tappout)

But this time it was differant, he got beatdown by Couture for 25 mins. His eye was closed shut, had a bloody nose and a gash on his chin. He truly looked broken after the fight.

Sure getting your arm broken sucks, but a 25 minute beatdown at the hand of Couture is no picnic either.

I am not a Tim hater, but loved watching Couture Own him.

So considering this is the first time that someone really beat the crap out of Sylvia, how do you think this will effect his future?

I just think this will make him a better fighter. He will be better prepared and more hungry and aggressive in his next fight. Like I said in a previous thread, I feel sorry for the poor bastard who has to fight him next. Remember what happened to the last guy who had to fight Sylvia after a devestating loss (Tra Telligman).

From the way the next couple of HW fights are shaping up, Sylvias next opponent will be either Christian Wellisch, Carmelo Morrero, Eddie Sanchez or possible Marcio Cruz (if he is still fighting in the UFC). Whoever it is is dead in the water.

I agree, If anything this will teach him that if he does'nt bring it, he will get hurt. When he comes out to fight he is dangerouse. Hopefully we will see the Tim Sylvia of old, and not just for 1 fight.

The biggest problem with Tim is well once you take away his height advantage and he doesnt have you at reach anymore, he is done.

His striking is awful. I have said that in other threads. Look at his hands they are wayyyyy to far out infront of him and they are always low. That is why he is so vunerable to the over hand right that randy/AA throw. Against cro-cop Tim would be demolished within the first round.

Fixing his striking is a possible. However the biggest weakness he has is his complete lack of ability to be athletic. The guy cant move. Take a look at his fights. His head stays in one spot. He has zero movement. If you can reach his head you can knock it off. That and I think he has a bit of a weak chin due in part that him being so tall tends to leave his jaw exposed.

The later two weakness's just cant be fixed. That is why I really think you just saw the last time Tim will ever get near that belt.

I'm gonna do somethin crazy and actually try and defend Sylvia for a sec. Yes he's boring to watch most of the time, but the man does have some skill. His fight against Snowman, as bas as it was in the last 2 rounds, showed he has some very good grappling skills, especially working his way out of a choke as he did. I thought for sure Monson's python arms would have crushed his neck but he rolled brilliantly out of it. I've seen him destroy guys with his roundhouse kicks. Arlovski is no bum and Tim ownes him, so say what you will about him, at least he's got the stones to go in there and compete, people make not like his style, approach, or character but he deserves some respect.

Wether he wins it again is another story but I'll bet you anything that within the next year or so Sylvia would have worked his way up to another title shot. He is still a great fighter despite this loss (hell its only his third in his entire career) and isn't finished by any stretch of the imagination.

Tim is usually a good fighter, but Couture made him look like an early KOTC guy out there. That was domination, and it wasn't like Cro Cop dominating Silva, it was an embarrassing domination. Couture just made Sylvia look like a novice out there, and even though I dig Big Tim, I freakin' loved every minute of it. Ok, Tim, now you can be the fighter you once were. I hope he goes back to his Telligman kicking ways.

Couture is awesome.
