I have the 1st round going to Sonnen (thus winning the fight),
just because of the way fights are being judged.
In terms of real fighting damage/effectiveness i would give it Bisping, but as Dana says, it is what it is...
Any way, what a mess by the officials.

This.^ Octagon control and dominant position always seemed to be favored over real damage.
Real damage fight: Bisping 1 (it was close)
Bisping 2
Chael 3 (overwhemingly)
Judging criteria for fights is the real issue at hand here.

This thread just made my day, thank you for the article. That's exactly how it should've been, and the judges need to get a ******* reality check. They're getting paid to watch a ******* fight and say who won each round, it's not hard, do your job right or get fired, simple as that.

I suggest you watch all of Sonnen's post fighter pressers... 'my boy' claims every fighter he faces has hit him as hard as he's ever been hit. That doesn't change the fact, however, that Sonnen's face was no worse for wear than Bisping's, and that Bisping didn't rock Chael... Chael rocked Bisping. That is damage my friend.

30-27 for Chael was way off the mark, but 29-28 seems the right call...
I wouldn't call either fight a "robbery" like some people seem to be doing... Bisping vs Chael was a close fight and could have been a split decision or even a draw... But not a robbery by any means

So how do you explain him saying that he thought the fight could have gone Bisping's way without him being surprised?

Just about everyone believes that already
Only the most loyal fans are claiming a definite victory for their favorite fighter. It was a close fight and if you asked Bisping if he thought Chael had won before the announcement I bet he'd say the same thing.

Why would anyone have to explain this? Most people, including this 'most loyal of Sonnen fans', acknowledge that it was an exceptionally close fight that very well could have gone either way. I called it a draw myself, so I'm not certain what you're getting at. Either man could have taken this fight, and it wouldn't have been a robbery. When it's that close, it's that close.
If anything, it shows that Chael, in reality, is a humble human being who can tip his hat and pay respect when it's due. God forbid Bisping ever acknowledge that he was defeated. He pulled the same stint with Wanderlei, and he's even claimed he feels he beat Rashad. Hell, I'm surprised he hasn't claimed he feels he beat Dan Henderson.
The fight was razor thin, and I wouldn't have been upset if Mike had taken it. Chael is just acknowledging how close it truly was... so again, what's your point? He also said during the press conference that he felt he won, so it wasn't a case of him saying, 'They gave it to the wrong guy'.

the Bisping fight should've been 29-28. Terrible judging last night.

Chael said he thought Bisping won. It's a close fight and could have gone either way, I agree.
I'm just going to try to keep it objective and say I don't agree with the judging criteria.
I don't understand how holding a fighter down and pinning him against the cage would have won him rounds 1 and 2. Bisping hit with harder, more damaging shots in those rounds.
In round 3 it was a different story because Bisping didn't do anything to get out of it or strike him back.

According to the interviews Ariel did with both Sonnen and Bisping after the fight, Sonnen did ask him before the announcement. They both basically gave the same account of the conversation, Sonnen asked Bisping who he thought won and Bisping said I think I got you 2 to 1.
