The latest season - TUF 15 - will commence on March 9th on FX . As it is airing on a FOX channel and is the first time the show has featured live fights rather than pre-records, it is sure to get more attention than recent seasons have.
But there is also going to be some controversy, and one of the most polarising matters is surely going to be the inclusion of a gay porn star as a cast member.
Dakota Cochrane has an 11-2 professional record which includes a solid win over former WEC champion Jamie Varner. But he also has a sideline as ‘Danny’ and ‘Sean Cody’ in the gay porn industry, which is likely to cause a stir among MMA fans when it hits the forums.. Ooh, any second now.
A post on Middle Easy first flagged up Cochrane’s moonlighting and a quick Google search of his name came up with a website called Queerty, which has him featured in a list of athletes who have become gay porn stars (or gay porn stars who have become athletes, one or the other).
Interesting quote from the Queerty article. Asked about his personal life, Cochrane is quoted as saying “Yes [my girlfriend knows I'm doing gay porn], but she’s not happy about it” - can anyone really blame her?
It does not take a sociology degree to understand that the typical MMA fan - certainly the casual aficionado - is of the loudly heterosexual, Tapout-wearing alpha-posturing variety and so Cochrane’s presence in the TUF line-up is going to cause some outrage and some not very nice epithets being thrown around.
But let us try and encourage a mature approach. Above all, Cochrane is a successful professional fighter who trains with some animals at Premier Combat Center. His training partners include Jason Brilz, Jake Ellenberger, Ryan Jensen and Houston Alexander.
All of them have fought under the UFC banner and as it seems his sideline job has been common knowledge since the middle of last year, they clearly aren’t bothered about his sexuality. That said, he has probably heard one too many jokes about ‘naked rear chokes’ and ‘the third hook’.

Just kidding! This is def weird. One's sexual orientation has little to do with their fighting ability so I'm not going to hold any qualms there, but do I think it is going to do wonders for the UFC's image?
Hell no. The answer would be the same if the porn star happened to be straight.

If they know they have a gay porn star, I guarantee they know they have at least 1 redneck who will refuse to train with him.
A sad day for tuf in my opinion.

Well they will have to throw that lil bit of info in to make some drama. I know some one won't want to train with him and thats whats sad. Rolling with a person who does gay porn won't make you gay lol.
