Maybe, but that was very bad top positioning on his part. I think the only reason he didn't get swept earlier was because he froze and just held on without trying for anything that would leave him open for counters.

Either way, you're right about him being at 145. Another reason he may have had so much trouble on top was because Chiesa is stronger than him. He had to concentrate all of his effort on just holding him down and had to take whatever punishment Chiesa was giving him from the bottom. That's no easy task when you're fighting outside of your weight class against a wrestler. He wasn't able to be offensive without giving up position and that put him on full defensive mode.

As long as he immediately goes back to 145, he could have a bright future in the UFC. I think these guys deserve more benefit of the doubt regarding their cardio. Considering the training programs they're in, they're almost always going to be a little gassed in the later rounds of the competition. I'm sure once they get their UFC contracts, we're almost guaranteed to see completely different fighters cardio wise.

So much for Chiesa just being lucky. The guy has so much heart, he just doesn't give up. That kind of spirit can come a long way. His top game is legit. Once he eventually got the takedown, he easily mounted Vick and pounded away until the referee stopped it. I'm glad to see he isn't only going for submission attempts now. His ground and pound is probably a better tool of his in my opinion. I think that he should have been more persistent with his take downs earlier because his stand up is poor, but he may have been trying to not be predictable. Once he finally went for a take down again in the second round, he didn't have a hard time getting it.

Vick has good take down defense, but his ground game needs work. When he got slammed, he pretty much got overwhelmed instantly and covered up waiting for it to be over. I'm not sure if Chiesa's top game is that great, or if Vick's ground defense is that bad. That would explain why he works hard on keeping it standing.

That was a fun fight. So was Iaquinta vs. Pichel.. I expected Iaquinta to take it more comfortably, but Pichel didn't make it easy for him. That was really back and forth with both fighters having their moments.

I thought so at first, but in the replays it seemed that one of the punches on the ground turned his lights out....

I cant see anything but a Iaquinta win in the final though.

Two great fights and I'm looking forward to the finale, should be good. I think Iaquinta will take it as he has good wrestler so he should be able to stuff Chiesa's takedowns and Chiesa seems to get hurt quite a lot so I think Al will stop him.
