Dana White considering another season of TUF featuring UFC veterans

Quote:
Out of fifteen versions of the Ultimate Fighter only a few truly stand out. One of those is unquestionably TUF 4:
The Comeback where a group of UFC veterans were given a second shot at redemption inside the Octagon with each divisional winner earning a title-shot in the process.

The season re-introduced the public to fighters like Chris Lytle, Jorge Rivera, Patrick Cote, and Matt Serra (who ultimately went on to defeat Georges St-Pierre to become champion in the opportunity he’d earned on TUF).

With ratings dipping down with the reality show’s transition to Fridays on FX it seems the UFC is weighing the possibility of doing another “comeback” season in hopes of sparking some more interest by using established athletes.

People keep asking me about the comeback. It was a great season, and the craziest part of that whole season is Matt Serra wins it and actually wins the title; it was crazy. The answer is yeah, we’re looking to do a lot of different stuff now with (TUF 15) and that would be a fun one,” said UFC President Dana White in an interview with Fuel TV after this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 3 event.

Currently Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz are coaching against each other on TUF 15. The show’s finale is scheduled for June 1 with the next season likely planned for a September start-date.

I would love to see another Comeback season. TUF 4 is the season that always stands out in my memory. It is a great way to revive the careers of some struggling fighters, and it would help the casual viewer know more of the guys at the lower and middle tiers. As it is now, only a handful of the TUF graduates end up deserving to be in the UFC. However previous UFC veterans who have faltered a little have already shown they have what it takes to compete in the UFC.

I thought that doing a TUF with one of the divisions that has no clear cut #1 contender, like a GP style tournament over 10 episodes. The winner gets a titleshot, honestly divisions like LHW/MW/WW/ seem very diluted these days (due to the current Champion cleaning out), it could also give some up and coming guys allot more exposure.

If they do it, it has to be with fighters that were cut and are still competing elsewhere. The minute they start bringing fighters out of retirement is the minute I lose interest, in what could be a very interesting season.

I think you have to have a 205er in their just because that division needs talent but you can also siphon off the weaker talent at 170 and 145.

LHW
Tom Blackledge
Jason Brilz
Anthony Johnson
Vinny Magalhães
Eliot Marshall
James McSweeney
Ricco Rodriguez
Brendan Vera

WW
Dave Branch
Rich Clementi
Paul Daley
Matt Riddle
Sean Peirson
Dan Hardy
Jesse Taylor
Stephen Thompson

FW
Junior Assunção
LC Davis
Leonard Garcia
Mark Hominick
Nam Phan
Jens Pulver
Mackens Semerzier
Joe Stevenson

I would say have it two teams of 12, and run it old school style where the weakest are culled from the pack till we reach the final four/semi system. Have Forrest and Stephan as the "coaches" who basically just crack wise and make the matchups.
