TUF: Michael Chiesa vs James Vick

I really wish Vick wins, better than the VERY LUCKY Chiesa!

I coulda sworn I read something saying TUF James Vicks had to retire...?

Could be mistaken.

You're thinking of former TUF winner James Wilks. He retired recently from MMA. I can see the confusion though, haha.

How is Chiesa very lucky? He beat Lawrence because Lawrence is inexperienced and didn't stick to his strengths. That great sweep and ground and pound finish wasn't "lucky". Chiesa also won an easy to score decision over Larsen. First round being 9-9 and second round being 10-9 for Chiesa. Larsen didn't lose because of the knee either. Chiesa was actually beating him more comfortably before the knee was thrown. He became more safe after probably due to fear of making a mistake again.

He's earned his spot in the semi finals just like Vick has. You don't see me calling Vick lucky because he accidentally knocked Daron out with a knee that he admitted he didn't even mean to throw. This is MMA, give credit where it is due. Chiesa deserves a lot of credit for making it this far despite his father dying. That has to be really hard. I know I wouldn't be able to focus if a parent died. I wouldn't even care about the competition that much anymore. To think he could just go to a funeral and put it behind him and focus on the competition only is naive. It takes a lot of time to heal from that sort of thing and it's almost guaranteed to still be in the back of his mind every day as he trains. The fact that he is still winning and focusing shows a lot of dedication and courage on his part in my opinion. He deserves as much respect as any of the other semi finalists.

Round 1 - A touch of gloves get us started. James paws a jab as Mike fakes a shot. They circle and reset. James lands a lunging shot to the body. He then tries a few kicks that are checked. Mike charges with punches, but James counters with a single punch. Mike closes the distance and gets underhooks, and they jockey for position against the cage. Mike delivers knees to the body, but James actually forces the takedown. He's quickly back up, though, and they reset. James lands an uppercut as Mike lands a straight right, and Mike gets through a straight left right afterward. James returns fire. Mike briefly slips, and James lands a punch to the body and then a quick combo. James lands with more frequency until Mike backs him up with a left. Mike tries to catch a kick, but James shakes free and lands more punches while chasing. Mike quickly answers with straight punches. James wobbles Mike, who goes to his knees, and James wraps a guillotine and moves into mount. He torques the choke but doesn't have the position, and the round ends. It belongs to James, 10-9.

Round 2 - Mike is the aggressor early in the round, but James works body punches while chasing with straight punches. The fighters trade some sloppy punches and kicks in the center of the cage, and James briefly sends his opponent to the mat with a punch that knocks him off balance. James goes low with a kick and then eats a lunging right. Mike shoots, wraps the hips and gets the takedown. He immediately moves into mount and rains down punches as James can do little but cover up as the blows start to mount. The ref halts the bout, and Mike punches his ticket to the tourney finale. Mike Chiesa def. James Vick via KO (strikes) - Round 2, 1:55.
