TUF: Smashes - Predicting the fighters *Welterweights*
I thought i'd have a look at some UK and Australian guys on the regional circuit, and scout guys that will potentially be part of the TUF Smashes series. This will be for Welterweights, and tomorrow i'll post my list of potential Lightweight contendors for the show.
Each team will have 4 fighters per weight class, and here's a list of 5 welterweights from each country (give me 1 leniency!) to look out for who might be on the show. I'm hoping to guess 4 of the 8 guys in my list right :thumb02:
1) Eugene Fadiora (11-1)
24 year old Fadiora made his MMA debut 4 years ago when he was 20, and has won 11 of his 12 fights. The only blemish on his record is to top Welterweight prospect and recent UFC signee Gunnar Nelson. At 6'2" Fadiora has also fought at Middleweight, so he is a huge Welterweight. He's finished 10 of his 11 wins, with 5 coming by Submission and 5 by TKO. His wins include Danny Mitchell (8-0) and Matt Inman (7-1).
2) Ali Arish (14-2)
Origonally born in Iran, Arish moved to live in England at a young age. His main skills are in wrestling, and he has amassed an impressive 14-2 MMA record. After starting out his career 1-1, he has since won 13 of his last 14 fights, with the lone blemish to recent unbeaten Bellator signee Jack Hermansson. Last year he got an impressive win over Wayne Murrie (12-3).
3) Luke Newman (5-0)
Newman is just 20 years old, and grew up with a boxing background. He trains out of Team Titan, alongside Brad Pickett. Newman has finished all 5 of his pro fights in the first round, with 3 coming by Submission and 2 by TKO. He was also an unbeaten 3-0 as an amateur.
4) Jake Bostwick (11-8)
Don't let his record fool you - since putting a 7 fight losing streak behind him, Bostwick has won 8 of his last 9 fights. He is the current UCMMA Welterweight champion, and his recent wins include Denniston Sutherland (17-7) and Jermaine Facey (8-7). Bostwick comes from a boxing background and has extremely heavy hands.
5) Bola Omoyele (6-1)
Another brutal stand up fighter, Omoyele has finished all 6 of his fights with punches, with 5 of the 6 coming in the first round. Omoyele fights for the UCMMA promotion, and burst onto the scene a few months ago when he beat the previusly unbeaten Warren Kee (7-0) in just 99 seconds.
1) Ben Alloway (12-3)
At 31 years old and having had 15 pro MMA fights, Alloway is Australia's most experienced fighter on the list. He is a well rounded fighter and has amassed a solid 12-3 record, with 9 finishes in 12 victories. Currently on a 5 fight winning streak, he holds wins over Mauro Chimento (14-8) and Corey Nelson (9-2).
2) Robert Whittaker (9-2)
Whittaker actually holds wins over both Ben Alloway and Shaun Spooner (ranked 1 & 3 on this list). He's the former CFC Welterweight Champion and recently lost his title to Bellator vet Jesse Juarez (17-8). Whittaker was originally from a karate background, and is known for being an aggressive young fighter.
3) Shaun Spooner (8-2)
Spooner fights out of Western Australia, and recently had a 7 fight win streak snapped when Robert Whittaker (number 2) TKO'd him. He has finished all 8 of his wins, with 5 coming by Submission and 3 by TKO. He doesn't have a traditional martial arts background, and has been training MMA for 7 years.
4) Tyler Manawaroa (7-0)
Manawaroa is the youngest fighter on the list at just 19 years old. He already has 7 fights, which is impressive considering his age. He fights out of Brisbane, and trains out of the same camp as UFC fighter Kyle Noke. He has finished all 7 of his fights within the first 2 rounds, with 3 TKO wins and 4 by Submission
5) James Vainikolo (8-4)
'The Volcano' Vainikolo is a big Welterweight who fought his first MMA fight as a Lightheavyweight. He is known for his aggressive stand up, and his back and forth fight with Dan Pauling earlier this year has got over 100,000 views on youtube - not bad for a regional Australian MMA fight! He's finished his last 4 wins by TKO.
How about Dylan Andrews, reckon he could have a shot? Or is he considered a kiwi?
He woulda been on the list but ya he's a Kiwi.
I'd be HUGLY supprised at any of those on the UK list. Jake Bostwick and Bola Omoyele both have fights scheduled in UCMMA and the filming has already started. I think the quality of fighter will be considerbly lower to make it a more even series. Also the UFC didn't target any of the UK's top 10 LWs currently in domestic competioin so I don't think they will do the same here. They didn't go after either Luke Barnatt or Chris Fishgold either who just signed with UWC and CWFC respectivly. I'd expect to see Colin Fletcher there(If they don't they are morons) and perhaps Michael Pastou. As for the WWs I I'd hoped for Tom Breese but he will fight on BAMMA against Warren Kee so I belive we will more likley see fighters like Dean Caldwell. Sean Carter would be a great WW choice too.
Despite his record Jermaine Facey should be on there...as for any more UK guys I'm drawing a blank here. Just shove Jimmy Wallhead on there for the love of god FOX!!!
they should grab Michael 'Venom' Page hes like the Rob Emerson of BMMA and thus future GOAT
