TUF: Smashes - Predicting the fighters *Lightweights*

I thought i'd have a look at some UK and Australian guys on the regional circuit, and scout guys that will potentially be part of the TUF Smashes series.

Each team will have 4 fighters per weight class, and here's a list of 5 Lightweights from each country (give me 1 leniency!) to look out for who could be on the show. I'm hoping to have 4 of the 8 guys in my list

Team UK

1) Tim Radcliffe (12-4)
Radcliffe is the current UCMMA Lightweight Champion, which he won by knocking out Michael Pastou (7-1) with a head kick. Radcliffe is a black belt in Jiu-jitsu, and regularly competes in regional tournaments. With his improving stand-up, Radcliffe has finished 10 of his 12 wins, with 7 of them coming in the first round.

2) Norman Parke (16-2)
25 year old Parke is the current Cage Contender Lightweight Champion. Fighting out of Northern Ireland, he is a judo black belt and had his first fight at just 19 years old. Now 25, he has put together an impressive 16-2 record, with just 1 of his fights going to a decision. Primarily a grappler, he has finished 12 of his wins by Submission.

3) Shane Omer (7-0)
Omer burst onto the scene last year when he brutally knocked out TUF veteran Aaron Wilkinson (7-4) in just 92 seconds. Omer has finished all of his fights, and his longest was just 6 minutes long. A pro for 3 years now, Omer is an extremely well-rounded fighter.

4) Colin Fletcher (8-1)
The ‘Freakshow’ Colin Fletcher is a BAMMA fighter with just 1 blemish to his record. At 6’2”, he is a huge Lightweight and recently moved down from the Welterweight division. His recent wins include Jason Ball (18-10) and David Round (5-4) under the BAMMA promotion. A submission expert, Fletcher has finished 7 of his 8 wins by Submission.

5) Martin Delaney (6-0)
Unbeaten in 6 pro fights, Delaney recently won the On Top Lightweight title with a hard fought 5 round decision win over Mamour Fall (11-5). Fighting out of Scotland, he is one of the older fighters on the list at 32 years old. He is primarily a grappler, and his accomplishments include holding a black belt in Judo.

Team Australia

1) Ben Wall (6-0)
At just 23 years old, Wall is arguably Australia’s hottest prospect. He has already put together an unbeaten record that include wins over some of Australia’s best lightweights – Nick Honstein (10-2) and number 3 on this list Rob Lisita (7-3). Wall is an extremely well rounded fighter, although his last 5 fights have gone to the judges.

2) Greg Atzori (10-2)
Atzori has compiled an impressive 10-2 record since making his MMA debut in 2010. He has kept active, fighting 6 times in 2010, 5 times in 2011 and once so far this year. He has finished 9 of his 10 fights, with 4 TKO’s and 5 Submissions. His best wins are over Josh Payne (7-6) and Shane Wundenberg (4-1).

3) Rob Lisita (10-4)
After starting his career with a mediocre 3-2 record, Lisita has since won 7 of his last 9 fights. The 29 year old is a small Lightweight at just 5’7”, but has not let it hold him back as he’s the former Fight World Cup Champion. He has recently been fighting for Asian promotion Legend FC, where he handed Rory O’Connell (5-0) his first defeat.

4) Patrick Iodice (5-0)
The youngest fighter on the list at just 18 years old, Iodice is the reigning Fight World Cup Lightweight Champion. Despite his youth and inexperience, he already holds impressive wins over number 2 Greg Atzori (7-1), and Damien Brown (5-1). He has finished 4 of his 5 fights, with 3 of the stoppages coming due to punches.

5) Sonny Brown (5-1)
After starting his MMA career with a loss, Brown has since won 5 straight fights. All 5 of his fights have been finishes, with 4 Submissions and a TKO. Brown fights out of Sydney, and his wins include Damien Brown (5-0).

I'd love to see Gustavo Falciroli although he fights bantamweight. But just heard that he is fighting at One FC 5 at the end of august.

Sonny Brown trains at my gym, Lange's MMA. He's got a wicked ground game, finished a dude by gogoplata after getting rocked about 8 months ago.

Fingers crossed we see Colin Fletcher get his chance, further cementing Sunderland as an MMA hotspot in Britain.
