Is it that that the fighters are just better, or is it that Jens is a way better coach than BJ?

I think Jens is a better coach. Just because someone may have more talent than someone else doesn't make them a better coach. From what I've seen Jens is putting a lot more effort into (atleast talking) teaching his team. I know that he sometimes doesn't jump in there like BJ but you can't always see everything when you're in the middle of things.

I think BJ's plan to have the fighters choose him backfired. Every single fight has shown a total lack of aggression from BJ's fighters. In the case of Andy Wang, the fighter can't follow instructions.

Also, Penn's fighters seem WAY more one dimensional. They seem to have alot of high level BJJ practitioners as opposed to all around fighters.

I'm a little surprised that BJ hasn't had any surprise guests yet too.

i think that jens has his team training hard everyday
and bjs guys are training a little here and there and their sitting around the cage having group therapy
and he seems to have less control over his guys
they dont listen to him when there in the cage
trust me im rooting for penns team and every week i say this is gonna be the week they win and its not happening
emerson should have took diaz and wang if he brought it to the ground it would have been over in the first 2 mins of the second round.BJ needs to take control and get serious and win this
i cant wait to corey hill fight hes gonna dominate

just my .2cents

I agree completely. That whole "if want to be on MY team and don't want anything to do with Jens Pulver" was so juvenile and drew the fighters with that kind of mentality. If you're serious about joining the UFC and serious about getting that contract then it shouldn't matter to you who your coach is. You've got the chance to learn from two great fighters. I think BJ's stunt just weeded out all/most of the guys who weren't trully serious about learning and winning and he shot himself in the foot by taking them all. He did Jens a big favor.

you know what... i was lookin at that fight last night and actually thinkin that the fighters on Jen's team or just better fighters and he's just polishing them... because, for instance, in the fights - Penn had a guy in there with no experience really, then i look at their records and most of them are close to .500... where as on Jen's team these guys have stronger winning records...

I think BJ is trying but he's guys (the one's who fought already) are tough but not that good... like last night... that kid was just stubborn and hard headed.... You can't coach someone to listen in 2 or 3 weeks

IMO, Jenn just has better fighters and he's just better at motivating them

I agree with you in your points that BJ did a childish thing and that he probably got a few guys who were of that childish mentality but he did get some really good fighters like Joe. I disagree that a fighter who wants the contract shouldn't care who the coach is. When you want to be the best you want the best coaching you. It's just to bad for Team BJ that BJ doesn't seem to be the best coach even though his back ground says other wise.

Side note: BJ is coaching like he's been fighting as of late. He cares enough to step into the "ring" and put forth an effort but it is no where near what he is capable of. It really seems to me that BJ has the mindset that what he does is enough to just coast right through things. Which is tragiclly sad...and a waste.

I also think that Jens is just a better coach. It seems like when they show the two teams training that Jens is pushing them much harder then Penn is pushing them. Jens rides their ass and it makes everyone work harder. It seems like everytime I see Penns team they are all chillin on the mat and not really training hard enough.

I didn't vote in the poll cause its alot of both. Pulver seems to have connected with his fighters better to where they listen and he can still get on em hard for not trying.

He also picked all the better fighters. I didn't really like any of BJ's picks except Luazon.

I would say its a bit of both. People who chose BJ IMO chose him for his name. If you knew much about him you would know he's not big on training, the man is naturally gifted. Now if you aint got the gifts you need a man like Pulver who works for his dolla.

So to start BJ got the "i like the name" people. Diaz realized fast he didnt need BJ to win. Shame the others didnt. Then of course due to BJ's (looks like) slack training means they get less out of the days training.

I mean Pulver got Hughes to come in to help his fighter as Wang is a BJJ black belt. I mean apart from Chuck and GSP who better to teach a little take down defense and protection while on the ground?

Ive rooted for Pulver because in my oppinion he's there for the fighters and i presumed would be the better coach, no way would i have picked BJ, he's got to much natural skill to understand overcomeing the fact you dont have it.

Honestly I think BJ is a bad coach because he is so talented. It is very hard for someone to learn from a guy as good as BJ. He is expecting everyone to be on his level when they clearly are not

I know for a fact that all the fighters on BJ's team are training I asked one of the cast members and he said they mayed it look like BJ dosen't train hard through editing. Any ways Team Pulver's team is just more talented. The only guys that are good on team Penn are Gray,Matt and Joe

I think that has a lot to do with editing I dont think a fighter like BJ Penn would just let them sit around all day, that is just what the cameras want to show you

You are right it is all editing. I am actually on a forum that both Andy Wang and Monsta are on. They started a thread for questions and they both stated that they were busting there asses.
They are trying to make people think that BJ is a fat slob and Pulver is gonna out work him and kick his ass in the fight. To make it more competive. BJ is not a bad coach he owns a very large BJJ school. Go to BJPenn.com - Home of The Prodigy they have classes taped so u be the judge.

If Jens picked the better fighters, wouldn't that make him the better coach? Whatever..

Anyway, Jens is definitely training his boys harder, and better. Christ, he's bringing in Jeremy Horn, Matt Hughes, brought in a BJJ, wrestling and boxing coach, so allow me to quote Gabe now "If you want to be one dimensional Jens is the right place for you"....right Gabe, right.

yea i agree that it is a little bit of both. i think jens pushes his fighters more but they dont ever really s how BJ's team train like the do jens.

but so far i think we have seen the best of Jens team go against the worst of BJ's team. BJ's team still has wiman, reudiger, lauzon and maynard left. IMO easily their 4 best fighters assuming gabe can make wait

To be honest I'm a little surprised myself he didn't bring any guest fighters as well, but I think BJ is a good coach, but Jens in all honesty seems to be doing a better job and his team is working as a team. Bj's team is dysfunctional. (We can blame Gabe and Wang for that  )

The only people I see possibly moving on from BJ's team are Joe, Gray and Wiman. Maybe Gabe, but aside from Corey, the rest of Team Pulvar doesn't really look too impressive either. I guess we are just going to have to wait for the next round to see who is really going to make it.

You guys are funny, the reason for Pulver's dominance is because his best are picking some of BJ's worst. Miller tapped out a one-dimensional wrestler in Monstah, Diaz (who is very near the top on Pulver's team) tapped out a striker who doesn't seem to be that great at striking. And Gamburyan tapped out Noah who didnt seem to have anything going. We don't see alot of the training because of the editing and because Gabe keeps doing or saying something stupid to get camera time. And the reason they don't pick Gabe (despite having a hard time making weight) is because he has experience and Jenns knows he's a threat.

exactly... the best of team pulver has elminated the worst of team penn. If gabe is 100% in his fight against corey i think he will win

It's a combination of both really.

Jens is bringing in good guest trainers, that are showing his team useful techniques, and it looks (maybe an editing trick) like Jens is just pushing his team harder.

Also, it doesn't hurt that he has a pretty damn good assortment of fighters.

On a side note, I wonder if Jens threatens to bite anyone that's bailing during a workout? Have you seen that man's grill?!? I'd work my ass off to avoid getting a chunk taken out of me by those "things."
