Hector Lombard, Patrick Cote pegged as coaches for TUF: Australia vs. Canada

The UFC is poised to produce another international season of the Ultimate Fighter after successful past versions focused on fighters from Brazil, Australia, and the United Kingdom. This time around, Australia is back in the fold with Canada providing the opposing squad of scrappers. Though the weight-classes involved remain a mystery, the fighters leading each team have been leaked and should result in an intriguing affair assuming things play out as planned.

According to the MMA Sun, Patrick Cote and Hector Lombard have been targeted as head coaches. An official announcement is expected by week’s end. It also appears the UFC has Kyle Noke lined up just in case Lombard ultimately decides he cannot accept the role based on the expectation of moving down from 185 pounds to compete against Cote as a welterweight.

The 32-4 Lombard has lost two of three tilts in the UFC after being signed from Bellator albeit both by Split Decision. An undersized middleweight, Lombard fought in Australia a number of times before joining the organization’s roster. 25 of his wins have come by way of stoppage.

Cote is 19-8 with eight TKOs and three submissions to his credit. He was last seen outpointing Bobby Voelker in his divisional debut after years of competing as a 185er.

No dates were mentioned in terms of when TUF: Australia vs. Canada would start taping or air.

Not to me I want to see that fight for sure, but the show does remain to be seen.

Weird they would invest in the fight without knowing Hector can make the weight and Also I find it weird they would invest more money and energy into Lombard who has been a huge bust for the UFC and somebody who is unlikely to stick around once his contract is up unless he takes a substantial pay cut.

I guess if they can keep someone as annoying and cany and overpaid as tito and rampagew were for years they can trust a guy who may be a key figure into the australian market, doubtful though because he isn't aussie like some people make him out to be because he has lived here for a few years.

This does not make much sense to me.

Lombard, a guy who has looked mediocre since joining the UFC and Cote, a guy who has only recently fought his way back.

Just really weird choice of coaches in my eyes.

Tito and Rampage drew huge ppv numbers that justified there pay

I never thought Lombard would make 170lb, especially at his age now, and was sad that he came to UFC so late when Middleweight is much larger on average...

Go to Ariel Helwani's Twitter, he's been in contact with Hector and he was 193lb a couple days ago, hoping to hit 170lb by tomorrow... practice weight cut perhaps?

I know Lombard is 1-3 in the UFC, but this does not reflect his skills. Welterweight is stacked and Lombard is a unique challenge for any of them.

The coaches make no sense to me, but I always watch TUF for the contestants anyways, so no bother to me. I rarely pay attention to the coaches on TUF.
