Jens Pulver TUF 5 reaction blog: Episode #8 - 5/24/2007

How tense did it get between Jens and BJ in the room?

It got tense. BJ says “I can’t for the 23rd” of June when he and will be fighting, “I’m going to knock you out.” He said this as I was walking out of the room and I said “you didn’t say that….go with what you are good at and hope there are another 5 seconds on the clock if you get an arm bar.”

I’m down. You want to fight lets go. The guy was disrespecting me from day one. I was ready, when he opened his mouth I said “let’s go.”

I’ve been quiet the whole show, but after he opened his mouth that was it. I felt like, “do you think I’m afraid of you? You ain’t knocking me out.” And he won’t stand with me, he will be going for takedowns right off the bat.

At the time I was laughing on the inside though because I thought, “He’s going to stand with me one way or another because I’m going to outwrestle his ass.” But now we are going to fight so it doesn’t matter.

He’s a good guy, he’s tough. But when he opened his mouth it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I really tried to avoid the WWE thing, being up in your face, but that’s the thing about the show, you are put in each other’s face.

"You must first believe if you are to achieve. That rhymed... unintentionally."

gooooo

bj

gooooo

The most solid advice I can give to anyone who fights BJ Penn is...do not motivate the guy. Lets face it, BJ although talented, is naturally lazy. Your job is to NOT convince him to step on that treadmill.

I've never liked Penn but I too would love to see Pulver wipe the floor with his arrogant ass. Pulver was entirely correct in saying that the matchups were vastly in BJ's favor.

I hope Pulver knocks BJ tfo! I'm sick of him sayin stuff like "I'm gonna break your arm on the 23rd Jens!" And the one thing I want to know.........in Jens's absence from fighting in the UFC, how much ground work has he done at Militich? I guess we won't know if he actually has a new dimension to bring to the cage until the fight.

bj most certainly needs to get knocked down a few steps on the ego ladder. eventually, his mouth WILL catch up to him.

bj in my opinion is alright of a fighter. it was cool seeing hughes beat his ass a while back haha. I watch the show and to me he is just to cocky in my opinion. Jens seems pretty cool though. so go jens, knock him out for us.

I wouldn't really call it beating his ass. B.J. was dominate the first two rounds, if he would have gotten that choke earlier in the fight before the time went out he would have probably won. But he got a rib injury during the scramble to take Hughes' back in round two severely limiting his breathing capacity. He was visibly different in the third round not being able to breathe properly. Hughes was able to take Penn to the mat in a cross mount position and just kept punching him.

He didn't get tired. He broke a rib. He dominated Hughes AGAIN until he broke a rib. But shit happens.
