Either way it sets up their next fight on a PPV or UFN as a rematch. Cha-Ching for both of them.

What you fail to realize is that all cases are unique. Anderson got DQ'ed in his fight with Okami in a different promotion(ROTR I believe). They have different rules. UFC would look at the situation differently. It was his first offense(I believe in the fight). It is a tournament. These are exhibition fights. It would have either been called a NC, with Joe advancing, or a win for Joe.

Who cares, its all said and done now.
If a fighter can't continue because of an intentional foul it doesn't matter if they've been warned or not, it's a DQ. It would be a NC only if it was a clearly unintentional foul. The UFC would look at it the same way and if you don't believe me track down a copy of UFC 43 and see what happens to Wes Sims after he starts stomping the shit out of Frank Mir's face. It was the same kind of deal. Ref stopped the action, deducted a point, doctors checked out Mir and when it was determined that he couldn't continue the bout was ruled a DQ and Mir was the winner.

Anyway, I can't wait for the inevitable rematch when the show is over as I thought it was a very good fight and it was very obvious that the elbow effected the outcome. I'm not saying Joe would've lost but I don't think he would've beat him down the way he did. Joe's been my pick to win from the start, so I'm glad he won but it sucks to see a good fight end like that. Cole showed alot of heart to continue. He could've taken the DQ win but he didn't want it like that. It was obvious from the look in his eyes that he was still hurting from the blow and I knew Joe would dominate him after that.

He actually had been warned for a grazing shot to the back of Cole's head so it would have been a DQ had Cole decided to have it stopped

He was warned about one punch on the back of the head, and immediately can be heard then asking if his next shots are ok,to which the ref answers "thats fine Joe".If Cole had not been able to continue it should have been ruled a NC to be re-fought at the end of the series as the foul was obviously unintentional

It would have been a Cole win by DQ. But heres where it gets interesting and shows that Cole has class. Cole knew he was hurt but didnt want the win by DQ. So he chose to continue. So the rest is history.
Now lets just say history went the other way. Lets say Cole took the win by DQ. After the fight he goes to the hospital and comes out diagnosed with a concusion. He's now out of the tourney. So who do you think Dana brings back? No contest folks its Joe.
So there you have it in a nutshell.

I really would like to see these two guys fight again. Cole was really working hard with the submission attempts before the elbow. I feel like he might have had a chance to catch Joe in a submission due to Joe's aggressive style.

I thought this was an awesome fight, great ground fight when it was on the ground, i don't think that he woulda caught Joe though, although aggressive like you say, he was very aware of the submission attempts.

He was very aware, but still was reaching and leaving arms out there for a chance at an armbar or a triangle. I really feel that Cole will be a good LW contender over time although Joe is better at this time.
