Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight TUF Seasons Coming “Soon” Posted by Kris on 27 Jun 2007 at 1:00 pm
During yesterday’s appearance on ESPNEWS’ The Hotlist UFC President Dana White was asked during a viewer main session whether the UFC planned on doing another light heavyweight season on The Ultimate Fighter. White confirmed that the UFC planned on doing both light heavyweight and heavyweight seasons of the reality series “soon”.
White mispoke in saying that it could be season 6 or season 7 but as season 6 is already in filming and is welterweights only it appears season 7 will likely include the heavier classes.
Light heavyweights have been featured during both season 1 and season 3 although the format of the series has since changed from two weight classes to one per season which means the class of fighters is now 16 in a single weight class. Notable light heavyweight cast members from both season include Forrest Griffin, Mike Swick, Matt Hamill, and Michael Bisping.
Heavyweights have been featured just once during season 2 of the reality series. Notable cast members from the single season include Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine.
It appears that the light heavyweight will ultimately be the weight class for season 7 of the series while heavyweights may be season 8 or season 9. As of now the UFC and Spike TV have a contract through season 7 of the series although an extension for at least one additional season will likely happen this year.
Season 7 will likely tape this winter and will air next spring or summer.

The most solid advice I can give to anyone who fights BJ Penn is...do not motivate the guy. Lets face it, BJ although talented, is naturally lazy. Your job is to NOT convince him to step on that treadmill.
Heard they were also planning to do seasons in Japan and Mexico.
Just rumors, but hope there's some truth behind them.

Isn't HW pretty saturated too though? AA, Sylvia, CC, Big Nog, HH, Babalu, Couture, GG, Kongo, Werdum... they are all top tier minus maybe Heath herring and Kongo. But that is still a lot of guys.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, TUF should become a show that feeds WEC and not the already saturated UFC.
Yeah that would be way more awesome if they did this in other countries. I'm sure there are a lot of guys that are not American looking for an opporunity to break ice. We're supposed to have the best fighters in the world and I really don't know much longer this TUF thing is gonna last if the UFC roster is already beginning to get saturated. They need to change it up and make it more interesting and I think TUF traveling the world is a pretty refreshing idea.
