A 6SL Discussion: Post Ultimate Fighter Careers
When I was pretty new to the MMA world I'll admit that my gateway to the world was TUF after my buddies discussed it. A lot of people bash the fighters that come out of the show, but I'm curious to see how you would grade what they've done and what you think they will do. I made a similar thread to this months ago and most bashed Grove and hailed Diego. Haha
Ultimate Fighter 1
Forrest Griffin: The face of TUF series without a doubt. His striking has come a lot way from basically a great brawler to a superior technical striker. His first loss could have been seen as a win as he split decisioned the long time face of the UFC. His second loss sent him down the ladder after the Jardine fight. I think he's had a major impact on the UFC, but I doubt he'll ever be in the title match. I think he'll always be a name, but will never be able to crack the top 3 in the very stacked division.
Diego Sanchez: He was on a crash course with whoever had the title until he faced KOS. After he KO'd Riggs I thought this could was going to be tough. KOS showed that with the right game plan, Sanchez can be easily disposed. He still holds a win over Karo, but I honestly can't see him beating GSP or now KOS after the last performance. I see him coming close to the title but never capturing it.
Ultimate Fighter 2
Joe Stevenson: I've backed this guy in many arguments. People have called him weak (haha) and a brutal wrestler (haha) but fact is he is mowing through the LW. He is the closest by far to a title shot and now with Sherk suspended I can see Daddy getting the shot. His skills are underrated and I see him as a brilliant grappler. His power is underrated. The only person I see him outpowering him was just caught on the juice. I think he could be champion, but with him most likely having to face Penn it could be a real up hill battle.
Rashad Evans: He had a ton of hype after finishing Lambert and Salmon and had his shot to bolt himself up into the top tier of the LHW with a win over Ortiz. He got handeled in that match and got a draw because Ortiz is an idiot. The rematch will really show where he is going to head. His striking has come along, and we all know his wrestling is there but whether those tangibles are good enough to compete against the best in the world is yet to be seen.
Ultimate Fighter 3
Micheal Bisping: Dana Whites new priced jewel. The gateway to Great Britian has the charisma and the aggression to be an absolute fan favourite. He's been throw two average fighters will his stiffest competition coming against Hammill. This could be a bad night for Bisping as his weakest element is his TD defence (Ortiz said his wraaastling was way behind, although his jiu-jitsu makes up for it a bit). If Bisping takes it which I would think he would he could step into the octagon with someone of name value and begin his climb. Can't see him actually ever holding the title, but we'll see.
Kendall Grove: Everybody though this kid was crap coming out of the show, including me, until we saw how much he improved after running through Price and Belcher. Disgusting. He's in the weakest division with his stiffest test on the horizon with Cote. I see him winning that fight and bolting up into a fight with someone like Kampmann to move him up or down the rankings. Has shown that he can hang with some decent compeition, and I think he's actually got a shot if someone takes the belt off of Silva. His height and reach is such an advantage in that division.
Ultimate Fighter 4
Matt Serra: Is the champion..
Travis Lutter: Couldn't make weight..
and to early to tell what's the deal with Diaz.
Potential darkhorses to rise from TUF:
Ed Herman
Josh Koscheck
Marcus Davis
Luke Cuommo
Kalib Starnes
Nate Quarry
and anyone from TUF5.
Feel free to throw some of your thoughts at me, and give what you potentially see for these guys future.
