Hughes is said to be cocky by many fans, but if anyone does deserve to be able to act cocky, it is Hughes. He's beaten the best in his division and was a dominant champion.

He is confident in his abilities, but does that translate to the disrespect that he's constantly accused of?

He gets grief for a comment to GSP on the TUF show. GSP never complained about the comment because it was likely edited for TV to look controversial.

After Matt lost to GSP, he never made excuses, but the same can't be said for GSP's loss to Serra. George made excuses that everyone seems to overlook.

It seems like Hughes is getting some unjust hate that Serra is trying to tap into to get himself some popularity. But last night's show didn't make Serra look like such a good guy.

When he was training his fighter, Serra repeatedly said, "I need you to..." The key word being "I."

It may be team Serra, but his role is to coach the team members to victory and develop them as fighters. It's not to have them serve Serra in his personal war against Hughes.

Serra came off as self serving and surprisingly inefficient as a coach. And he seemed shallow and too cocky around Hughes who has done more as welterwieght champion than Serra has. Serra hasn't even defended the title yet.

I wanted to like Serra more. He lives not too far from me. Rooting for a local boy would have been fun, but after seeing him last night, I became more of a Matt Hughes fan.
I agree with some of what you said here, but I still think Matt Hughes is a d!ck.

I hate him because of his annoying voice, because he always yells during the fights he is coaching. ye yells so loud it makes me wanna shoot the bastard. He looks like a bird, he thinks hes hot shit because he got lucky with GSP, Serra doesnt even deserve to be in the top ten Welterweight. He has a look in his face which pisses me off, and he sucks.

He pisses me off because he has that "In your face" loud ass attitude. He calls hughes out for being a dick but he's a dick himself.

Where is the line between speaking your mind and being a dick, as everyone keeps saying about Hughes?

I really hate the guy yells a lot during fights, is it that he is yelling that much or they are fighting in a small gym where the guy is freaking miced unlike the rest of the time when there is a huge crowd and the corners aren't miced? Just my AV side coming out. And whoever said Hughes didn't make "excuses" he said something about not training hard enough on his website, I have found the quote before if I need to again. Also the whole "I" in training motivates guys, it gives them a sense of pride like he believes in me. Or that is way I would see it.

+1 I liked the guy, but the way he acts around Matt Hughes is getting old real fast. If you wanna call him a few names fine, but saying insulting the guy everytime they put a camera on him makes him look much worse then anything Matt Hughes ever did.

I find Serra extremely abrasive, but I also have a lot of respect for him as a coach. He does have an undeniable talent for coaching. Does he deserve to be the champ? IMO, no. He should soak up the glory while he can, because he wont get the chance again. I think it's cool that Serra will confront people rather than talk behind their backs (well, most of the time), but only if he can do it without completely insulting someone. He definitely steps over the line verbally, and that's the one thing that really bugs me. I want to like him, but I can only find him respectable as a coach. I'll respect him much more when he retires from fighting.

I actually find all of his "Matt Hughes is a d!ck" comments pretty funny. He always says Hughes is a d!ck, but in different ways each time. And guys, you complain about how Serra is "insulting" Matt Hughes, but look at all the crap that Hughes talked about Serra. Saying that 90% of the time GSP would have beaten Serra, and that he is a disgrace for a champion. That sh*t would piss me off too, so Serra just saying that Hughes is a dick, which is true for the most part, doesn't really bother me.

So it's worse to say that a fighter is disgraceful as a champion because he swears too much, and too say that he would lose to GSP 9/10, than to call someone a dick every two seconds?

At least what Matt Hughes says has a logical basis. Calling Hughes a Dick every time you see him is just annoying.

Funny thing, I guess everyone is suddenly forgetting the Matt Hughes that laughing at GSP when he lost to a lesser fighter, the Matt Hughes that stirred the pot with Laimon and Serra on TUF 4 just for kicks. The Matt Hughes that said:
``Georges is French and the French didn't make war with us. They don't have a real warrior spirit. They don't have any heart. So the fight is going to be easy. Georges is going to give up because of that.''

So yeah saying Hughes is a dick is based in logic as much as what Hughes is saying about Serra, IMO

Most people don't hate Serra, they just realize (correctly) that he is not a legitimate champion and resent it. Serra's record is laughable compared to the top ww's. He hasn't fought very many top notch fighters and when he has he lost to them and not only that he managed to lose to a couple of cans along the way as well.

Karo must be physically ill every time he sees Serra with the belt considering how superior his record is, how he beat Serra and how he was supposed to get a title shot and then because Serra manages to win a couple fights against complete nobodies on a reality show he gets a title shot and flukes a win against GSP.

The question is not whether or not Serra will remain champ, he won't, the more relevant question is "How long will it be before he wins another fight in the UFC?" It could easily be years given the quality of fighters he is going to have to face now.

He fights Hughes and loses obviously. He gets to fight another contender after that, GSP, Diego, Karo again, Koschek, could be any number of fighters but whoever it is he is going to lose (because again, he is not a top ww, he isn't even top 10). He fights another contender after that, loses. That could be a year right there.

Having said that I like Serra in terms of his personality. He is forthright, he seems to have a sense of humor and he is a very capable coach. I greatly resent his being given a title opportunity when there were at least 10 fighters in the ww division who deserved it more than him.
