Why all the Matt Serra Hate?

He's not my favorite fighter or anything, and don't get me wrong, he's a little loud sometimes, but to me, it seems he just speaks his mind and calls it like he sees it. Maybe I just missed something. Did he do something somewhere, or talk some crazy shit sometime that was worse than what any other fighter has done/said?

When I watched TUF4(?) season it seemed like he was a good player for his team and helped everyone out. Sure he had a run in with Laimon, but he just spoke what he was thinking, to his face even. The only other shit talking I know of is his dislike of Hughes, where he thinks he's a dick. Well, Matt Hughes is a dick.

Anyway, fellow mma'ers. Fill me in. Why do you hate Serra? Is it because he beat down GSP?

maybe all the midwest matt hughs fans hate long island?
maybe they hate that matt serra is actually enjoying being champ? or that he is a real person who has feelings?
possibly because he is honest and says what he's thinking?

who knows.

i love serra, even though he beat GSP- I am a pretty big fan of st. pierre's too. but I like matt serra's attitude

I'm pretty sure it's because he beat GSP. Everyone around here lusts after GSP so seeing him get beaten by a guy that isn't highly ranked is a big downer. I don't mind Serra, he seems like he has a short fuse but most fighters seem to anyways.

Well, I'll be the first to have some balls and admit why I 'hate' Serra (I don't actually hate him, or really anyone for that matter, but strongly dislike). For starters, the guy is a loudmouth. People try to defend that with saying, "He just speaks his mind," like that's some kind of defense. "Hey lady, you're a fat ass. What? I'm just speaking my mind!" "No honey, you're not as hot as you use to be, and you are getting fat. What? I'm just speaking my mind!" "Yes, it is hard to focus on what you're saying with that grotesque pimple on your face. Just speakin' my mind!" That's absolutely no excuse to have to listen to his drivel all night long while I'm trying to enjoy my show.

My next point would be his pathetic little ego trip he's on. The guy beat a bunch of has-been's or never-will-be's on a show, and in turn was able to skip the ENTIRE WW ladder and fight the champ. Look at the guys GSP beat to get a title shot, or the guys Sanchez, Parisyan, or KOS have had to fight to get up in the rankings. Serra wouldn't have lasted through fights like that if he was even able to get through one. On the show, he recognized that (Or at least from what was shown) so he was a bit more low key. Now he thinks he's the hottest thing since sliced bread and he's running his mouth like some kind of veteran champion. Hey Matty, you got your ass absolutely handed to you by Karo Parisyan, Din Thomas, BJ Penn, and Shonie effin' Carter. I'm supposed to believe you're the champ?

Finally would be the little things that just grind on me. Everyone has little things that bug 'em, and it seems like they take those things for Serra and shove 'em right in my face. His constant screaming in the corner, his disgusting mouth (Seriously dude, buy a vocabulary), his hypocrisy - Seriously, you're a "bully," so I'm going to insult you and put you down! Are you kidding me?

Anyways, those are my reasons for not being a big fan of his. I never minded him until he got all this publicity and let it get to his head, but now I'm pretty darn sick of him. Maybe he's a nice guy off camera, but what they're showing of him isn't giving him the best face.

People are pissed because he's soaking up the championship. He's champion, he's allowed to do that. They think he is underserving of that title because he won TUF 4 and bypassed the welterweight ladder. Of course you don't hear anyone bitching about Sean Sherk bypassing the lightweight ladder and he really didn't do shit to deserve a title shot. Seriously, he did less then Matt Serra but no one gives him grieve for it.

I thinks it's because Serra knocked out GSP. Which I found pretty funny, I was laughing right along with Hughes when GSP lost. And probably his attitude is too aggresive for some fans.

Yeah, Sherk was only packing a 33-2 or 34-2 record coming into a newly formed division. What is that you ask? Is that the best record amongst LW fighters? Why yes, yes it is! (Or damn close to it.) Who else were they going to pick for a division they had just pulled back together? Pulver? Everyone knew he wasn't worthy anymore, and guys like Penn were already tied up. Dudes like Franca, Fisher, and Thomas hadn't reestablished themselves yet, so there wasn't a lot of people to pick from. Personally, I think Sherk was a great choice from what they had available.

Serra is uber cool. He's as 'bout as straight shootin' as it comes. He is who he is...likes to fight...and wants to keep his belt and prove everyone wrong. If nothing else, his claiming the belt has kept the interest in the WW division buzzing. We'll how long he keeps it.
