Hamill trying to learn rubber guard

Matt Hamill has been trying to tighten his ground game by adding the rubber guard. I just cant see Hamill working a ground game let alone rubber guard. Hamill says if he is going to fight for a championship he needs to be able to fight off his back.

The most alien position for a wrestler is on his back.
they are great on the ground as long as they have their knees on the ground, but a wrestler on his back is like a turtle......pretty much F'd.

its when someone from the bottom brings his leg up really high over the other guy's shoulder area. Usually they have to hold on to their leg with the opposite arm.

Basically a triangle, one leg across the shoulder area. Neutralizes your opponents arm.

if you want a good visual, BJ Penn and Nick Diaz use it frequently.

at least hamill is making an effort to better himself as a fighter and become more well rounded. rubber guard alone won't be enough though... he needs a 6 week clinic with Penn and another 6 weeks with the gracies. Then he'd have a reasonable understanding. I hear he's been working on his boxing, but it didnt show in the bisping fight. he needs to get with Ray Longo imo.
