I see Ben as having a slight edge in the first round only because he was pushing the action and the only time Dan could get close was when Ben put himself in the situation. Do you think that maybe the judges took the round away because it seemed as though Dan was stalling when Ben was on the ground. I think thats the reason he lost the round but it was close

It seems like people think cause a fighter gets knocked down in a round he can not win that round.
See, this is what I thought as well. I assumed it would go 3 rounds but I wasnt blown away when they said Dan lost.

Definatly agree with the people at the end of this thread. So what Dan knocked Ben down so what. Distance........which Ben used beautifully, then when they got to the clnch Dan ate knees and what was that standing there shit and punching Ben feet? R u serious and dont say Dan thought he had the round won. I think first round was a draw or closer for ben and i thought Ben def won the second. I guess I was the only one who saw buddies face at the end of the fight. Those long distance strikes hurt and do madd damage.......Serra said at the beginning we are gonna take advantage of Bens length. The only thing I admire about Matt Hughs is his distain for losing anything.

The first round was pretty even in my mind. The only thing that dan really had was hitting ben early and ben took that spill, I almost thought that was the fight right there. But after that ben was on his game and dan didnt have much control, He was kinda all over the place. Including the jogging he did during the second round, WTF???

Of course Dana is going to say the judge's were wrong, this makes him look better. If anything I could see the first round going either way and the second round i would score 10-8 in favor of ben, because Dan just ran around the whole second round ben was picking him apart left and right.

a 10-8 is for when one fighter COMPLETELY controls a round while dan did run around there for a awhile he landed some good shots too it was a 10-9 IMO if he got a point took away cause of the running i could see it but there wasn't

I'm not saying that I think Dan clearly won the first round (it was close to a draw), but I do not think Ben won it either. It was probably a draw. I do think Dan wrongly thought he did win it. Otherwise why was he running out the clock? It looked stupid to run out the clock like that, he was not paralyzed with indecison IMO, he was just afraid of Ben kicking his ass, so after getting the knockdown he tried to lock in a round by getting to the bell. He was wrong of course, it was actually pretty close, close enough that the poor sports tactics of letting the clock out run lost him the round.

I do agree about the fight as a whole, looking at the whole fight as one big round, Dan clearly lost that 10-minute round, no question about that.

Exactly right. A fighter has to demonstrate absolute domination of a round for it to go 10-8 (or the more common case for a 10-8 round is for one of the fighters to have had a point taken for one reason or another). Dan certainly won the first round 10-9 but no way in hell did it go 10-8.

Second round looked to be 10-9 for Ben as he was having the better of the striking (his kicks were really carrying some steam and landing). Dan was countering fairly well (when he engaged) and was connecting with his punches strikes.

IMO...this leaves the fight dead even and ready to roll for round number 3. Pretty sad case of judging considering it was really a strong fight (best of this sorry season I would say). Round number 3 looked to be a nasty war of attrition but I believe that Dan would have ended up knocking out Ben with a head kick or a knee to the face...he was landing some pretty good ones.

All that said...you just cannot leave it in the judges hands because there is going to be some subjectivity...that is just the way it is. If it is a two round fight you had better be looking to FINISH in two.

First of all...there is no "draw" in a round...it's a 10 point must. Closest you are gonna get is 10-9.

Second...sorry but you can't look at the fight as "one big round". It was two five minute rounds and there ain't no way that Dan won them both. 10-9 Dan and 10-9 Ben at the end of round two....let 'em go for the third!

Regarding draw round, oops .

Regarding second point, I KNOW, I did not say Dan won them both. He got his ASS KICKED in round 2, of course he didn't win, and round one could have gone either way, it was a coin toss which I guess has to be scored but if it could be a 9-9 round (like when someone loses a point) that would have been fair. I'm saying looking at the whole fight as a whole, BEN WON. Ben did more damage, had better octogon control, was more agressive, etc., looking at the whole fight. So in that sense I do NOT disagree with the judges, overall. BEN WON.
