EDIT: Ok I read the rest of your orginal post. I do agree that it could very likely be scripted, thus its all irrelevant.
However, my entire opinion on Matt Hughes has been based off a few things...
The main thing is the way he treats his fighters when they lose.. especially the ones that went into the fight with other things on their mind (ie Paul when his cousin died).
I mean I know Paul didnt follow the game plan, but when he wakes up from being knocked out.. I doubt the first thing he wants to hear is how he fucked up.
Also in Season 2, when he basically treated Jason Von Flue like garbage, even when he won.. simply because Matt Hughes didnt need to win that fight.. that is pretty much exactly what he said... he didnt even congratulate the guy.
Dont get me wrong, I read Matts blog, I read shit on his site.. I know hes not 100% asshole.. but he has his moments, and imo its enough for me to classify him as a jerk.

Are you sure it was Paul he was being a dick too? Cuz you just reminded me that I do remember him doing something similar to Barrera, I thought he was nice to Paul though. I'm pretty sure it was Barrera that he was yelling at hardcore after the fight, and yea I thought that was a little messed up...but like I said I take everything on this show with a grain of salt. I know some of this stuff is scripted so I don't even bother trying to figure out what is scripted and what's not, cuz in the end it doesn't affect me all I really care about are the fights haha.
I don't really care if you perceive him to be a jerk or not. My main thing was people believing everything on TV and citing those things as reasons to bash someone. I don't care if you dislike him or whatever, it's just getting redundant reading post after post of "Hughes is a dick". I don't think he's a dick, so I like to try and argue that popular opinion.

Fair enough.
And, I am pretty sure he was mega pissed at Paul.. I know he was also super pissed at Dan.. I think Dan got it worse, but under the circumstances, I was more shocked about the Paul incident.

He was pissed about Paul not following the game plan, but probably didn't ream on him seeing as how he just lost his cousin. Barrera however, was getting reamed days after his fight, during practice. Hughes called him scared, which I thought was over the line. Who is he to judge if Dan was scared. I think he was just lost, but that's my opinion. I feel like Hughes totally lost his mind at that point and took it out on his guys, mainly Dan. Then when training Speer, he was methodically breaking him down, which was a coaching strategy. Other than that instance with trying to break down Speer, I believe Hughes was being a genuine dick. WL2FU, you make very good points about the amount of footage and what is chosen to be aired. Although I totally agree with you on that, these are merely my opinions on the subject.

You both make good points and I do agree Hughes can be a dick at times it's just that I think it's overexaggerated and he doesn't do it anymore than any other fighter out there (with a few exceptions). Serra is a dick on the show just as much IMO. It's just that he's winning. Since Hughes lost 6 straight, and Serra was raking in the wins, they were showing more negative things about Hughes, and more positive things about Serra. If they only showed positive things about the losing team, it wouldn't be as interesting.

I honestly don't get the Hughes hate either. He doesn't like losing, who does? He's a bit harsh on his boys, but that's tough love. Plus he's an awesome fighter and probably the best ww in ufc history.

I'd say knocking out GSP in the first round to become WW champion of the world and going the distance with BJ Penn could classify as accomplishments.

How is Matt Serra a good coach? The only guy on the show who he actually coached lost due to submission even though that's supposed to be his and Serra's strong point.
I think the biggest thing that pisses me off about this show is people thinking that the coaching actually matters. For the guys who either have zero technical training, or the guys who soak everything up like a sponge that might matter. But on this show, those guys are usually pretty few and far between (no matter how wet behind the ears they try to make the fighters out to be).
You have to remember that the coaches have all of 2 hours to evaluate the guys on the show. That's not nearly enough time to make an informed decision aside from the guys who are clearly technically superior (on this show, that's Mac and George, and everyone including the coaches knew that going in). The whole picking a team concept is really a crapshoot as far as talent goes, and the coaches don't have enough time after that to work with their fighters to negate whatever advantage/disadvantage they gained while picking teams. Half of the guys are eliminated in the first two weeks of the show anyways, how much can you really improve in two weeks?
And as for Matt Serra being funny, I suppose that's a matter of personal opinion, but I find him to be one of the most arrogant, annoying people I've never met. I like that he buys into his own hype though, hopefully it will set him up for a bigger fall if Hughes smashes him and Hughes' two guys meet in the final. Now that would be funny.
