I have a ton of respect for Serra. I've gone over this on many threads, but I'm going to do it again. I'll only put out my positive feelings on both of them this time.

Serra Pro's:
- Great coach
- cares about his guys
- beat GSP
- beat GSP well
- stands up for his mentors (Gracies), friends, and himself
- he is a fighter with a fighter's personality
- he is fairly well rounded
- good Hughes impression

Hughes Pro's:
- good fighter
- funny chuckle

Okay, so I may like Serra a lot more than Hughes, but I tried to stay objective. Honestly, my cons for Hughes would have negated the pros anyway. I know Serra is abrasive and annoying. I know he says "dick" a lot. But besides all that, I think he's a stand-up guy who deserves to be where he is. I hope Hughes doesn't try too hard with his coaching career. I just don't think it's right for him. Back to the comparison, I do think Hughes is a more talented fighter than Serra. I do not dispute that. I think personality is what is on trial here.

To put it in Pulp Fiction terms, Serra is a dog, and Hughes is a pig. Personality goes a long way, and I don't dig on swine.

I can not question Matt Hughes conditioning. That part of a fight he is prepared for to know end and I respect that part of his training.

I respect Matt Serra's heart. He earned a title match and afterwards when he won you could tell that even he was shocked. But back when the bell rang to start that fight you would have thought that he had total faith in his abilities. That's the mentality a champion must have in the ring. Train like you are number 2 and fight like you are number 1.

People who say he got lucky are ignorant, he caught GSP and GSP paid for it dearly, I don't understand how people are unable to respect Serra even though hes proven himself.

I guess I'm the only one here who's actually starting to like Matt Hughes since the show started

After watching the latest episode and seeing Matt pull that ice queen shit when those two kids from Serra's team tried to pull them aside to clear up "awkwardness" and make friends, i realized that Hughes is not trying to win any hearts here.

Much like Serra, who is who he is wherever he is, Hughes is not going to go out of his way to make you like him-- he's not even gonna lift a finger. I think we can all agree that he's seen and done a lot to get where he is today, and though a lot of us don't agree that it justifies his attitude i think that it does warrant some respect.

I'm not even a fan of the guy, but his stubbornness and queeny attitude makes me laugh and keeps me watching.

Except Hughes said he would do anything for his guys and that he helped everyone when comparing himself to Esther. He IS who he is, but he SAYS he's someone different. He said one thing and did another.

What do I like about Hughes... let's see, some of his slams were pretty good. The ones where he'd dive on top of someone, and all of his weight would come down through his shoulder into the guy's gut. You'd almost expect intestines to come flying out of their orifices when he'd do that.

Serra? It's always fun to see a good Jiu-Jitsu fighter.

I love them both... for very different reasons.

Serra: Seems like the kind of guy you want to hang out with. He's funny and really cares about his fighters.

Hughes: I look forward to seeing him on TUF every week. His attitude and extended losing streak on the show made for great reality TV.

What did Hughes do that's different from what he said he would? In what way did Hughes fail to help his team? He couches them when they come to practice and he's in their corner at their fights. There's only so much you can do before it's left in the fighter's hands.
