Tap out to strikes

I really lost any respect I had for Pete Spratt as a fighter when I saw that. I have never in a televised bout seen someone tap out to strikes, they atleast try or cover up untill the ref stops it. 2 or 3 more hits and Big John would have called it and made him not look like such a p***Y.

There was nothing he could do but take punishment. He chose not to have the ref stop it...he did what he could and chose to fight even though he knew he was overmatched.

He was getting dominated by Serra. It would have better for ego had it been stopped but I can understand him tapping. It sounds like he was pretty messed up from the punishment.

From Serra's blog

Quote:

Inside the octagon, when the referee says “Go,” you cease being friends, but once he tapped out, I wanted to make sure he was okay. They didn’t show it, but Pete was down for a little bit after that, and you never want to see anyone get hurt, let alone a friend.

Seems like Spratt didn't want the fight in the first place. I didn't expect it to take much for the fight to be stopped.

I was surprised at the way Sera kept him down, though. There were a few times where Sera wasn't long enough in the legs and arms to put pressure on him from both sides, either from half guard or side control. Maybe it's just the way it looks on TV, since Sera is "the jj wizard", but if Spratt had've tried to roll Sera to one side he might've been able to get up, or at least get to the fence and try to wall climb.

Pretty lazy fight overall from Spratt, IMHO.
