3 come to my mind as the best, first is definitely Matt Serra. The guy just has the natural gift of being a great coach. Tito Ortiz trained his guys really well and they were all in great shape. Jens Pulver also was a great coach, Nate Diaz won TUF and has said that he wouldn't have done as well on BJ's team.

Ok, so I've watched all 6 seasons back to back in the past month. My conclusion is that Tito was the best coach. He trained them the hardest and the most efficiently.
Serra did a good job as a coach on Season 5, but didn't do anything spectacular on season 6 besides rub Joey's nuts. Yeah, his guys won more fights than Hughes, but that was due primarily to picks and not coaching. This is obvious by who was in the finals...Two Hughes guys.
Pulver did a good job but, as with Serra, he didn't do much. He was a solid coach that didn't do anything crazy. I didn't see much difference between Jens and BJ when it came to coaching (minus kicking out Wang ) I don't get why everyone is all over Jens nuts for his coaching? He did well, but nothing spectacular. What did he do that was so great?
Anyways, just my two cents.
BTW, Nate Diaz saying that he wouldn't have done as well on the other team, which he didn't trian with and therefore can't truly comment on, doesn't hold much water. He's biased for Pulver, that is obvious at the end of the season. Doesn't mean that BJ wouldn't have brought out the best in him as well.

Thats true, I was just stating what he said. He did work out with them once because he was fighting Corey, but other than that your right. BJ is obviously a better fighter than Jens, but that doesnt always matter when it comes to coaching I guess.

I wasn't calling you out on that, just pointing it out.
I don't remember seeing Jens work out with them more than once or twice, whereas Tito worked out with them pretty much every time.

Definately Tito. I went into that show as a Shamrock fan and he was such a disappointment. Didnt Ken bring in a weight training coach? Who does that?
I think deep down Tito is a nice guy with much respect for the sport. Now if he dumped his anorexic gf and attitude he could be a legend.

I'd actually believe Nate would have improved more working with BJ, I could be wrong but Nates style is BJJ and I think he could have learnt alot from BJ as nobody in the LW division does it better than the rubber man himself.

Sorry but I kind of skimmed the answers...so here is my thing, were Season 1 with Liddell and Couture that bad as coaches? I mean to say in these kinds of discussions there names never come up. Its always Jens or Serra or Tito I think Jens and Serra are fresh in ppl.'s memories and Tito looked good, I mean come on a monkey would have looked good beside the edit and coaching job Shammy did. Just my .02 cents.

Serra, great coach, just has this girly attitude. did he bitch and complain half of the season about Joey? I'm going to kick him off the team, so let em motivate him to stay.... Tito: great coach, but i believe he overtrained his guys. Tito overtrains himself. BJ - great fighter, bad coach, the dude is naturally so good, he has hard time passing that to others. Pulver seemed to be a large part of his team. He put time, effort and seemed to carry about every one of his fighter(well, maybe not everyone, but most).
Any thoughts on Franklin Hughes Season? It seemed that Franklins' Heavyweights did better than Matt's and Matt's welterweights did better.
